Richard, Yes, I remember Mark well and was at MUA that fateful day. We were so sad to lose him and the other boy. I knew Barbara also, but I cant remember if I met you. It was while I was in Modesto, that my most difficult time was dealing with the SDA system. It was pure legalism, no gospel there. Hope to talk to you more soon. Stan

Belva, Yes, Pastor O really got upset when I replied to onagiris EGW vision by quoting Heb.9:12 The Temple Curtain site on P.18 has another unbelievable post by Colporteur responding to Greg and I on health issues. If he thinks this way on health, he will never listen on other doctrinal topics. Stan

I just finished reading the most recent entries on the cut anmd run site. Did you catch it where Colporter says his children are adopted? Do adoption agencies let cult members adopt? I thought the adoption agencies looked for parents who are well-rounded, if you know what I mean. And, I have been wondering if his home is oppressive for his children. I am adding his children to my prayer list. I am not challanging his love for his children. I am sure the love is as intense as it is with any parent towards his child. I am thinking more along the lines of fun. I hope his kids are getting a fun childhood. Do you know what I'm trying to convey? I hope his children are having a good time.

"If he thinks this way on health, he will never listen on other doctrinal topics."

There's a huge problem right there. Health should not be a doctrinal topic!!! :-)

We have all encountered "Colporteurs" in the SDA Church. The ones I've known were difficult and set in their ways, inevitably having a red book under their arms at all times, and they were very good at whacking people over the head with it.

Sadder still is the fact that this man makes his living selling the red books. He is layers and layers deep in EGW. We've been making him work hard because we've restricted his ability to quote from EGW and have forced him to start searching the scriptures for rebuttals.

I've known people raised under those restrictuve standards, and I stand with Susan, where is the fun? No Disneyland for those kids! I'll bet they are never visited by the Tooth Fairy!

I wonder if his wife shares his narrow views? She just might be the saving grace of the household if she is willing to think for herself. We can't speculate about her, however, just pray for the entire family. God bless him, he was probably raised exactly as we are envisioning him raising his kids, and his funny bone is practically shrivelled and non-existent.

Thank you, Jesus, for finally allowing me to see your true face!

Jeremy, I agree that health is not a Biblical doctrine. That was misstated. Stan

My point was that, to the SDAs, it IS a doctrinal topic. Which is sad and unBiblical.

At the Lutheran church I attend we have 'St. John's Health Ministry'. When I first started attending St. John's and I saw the notice on the bulletiun board about this arm/branch of the church my first reaction was to run away from there as fast as I could. Instead of running I went to the coorindator of the program and met with her and asked her what that was about, what they did, taught, whatever. She told me they organize visits to the nursing homes and the shut-ins, they take lunch every day to the members who are laidup for whatever reason (post surgery, illness, etc., whatever), they have the county bloodbank bus come to the church several times a year and after the Sunday service the members can give blood. Anyway, I was totally impressed. It was totally different to the SDA 'health message'. I stayed, made St. John's my main church.

A hearty welcome to all the new faces here. I haven't had much time to spend here lately. I agreed to moderate the SDA board on CARM (pray for me!) and that has taken up almost all of my free computer time. Hopefully that will settle down slightly with time and I can have some more time to spend here as well.

About Colporteur on the RS site. I happened to go to the prayer section on the site. He was asking prayers for his oldest daughter. He did not clarify what it was, but she was giving him some trouble. I cannot remember right now how long ago that was. But I have put her on my prayer list along with all the SDAs. Just thought I would throw that in.

Hehe...I wonder how long Richard O'Ffill is going to put up with us, especially now that a couple of us have avatars under our names on all of our posts. I just added the following picture--it shows up on all of my posts there now: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/SavedForever/strengthofsin.gif

Mine is even within the stated guidelines for size!

Jeremy, I love it. Nothing like speaking the truth every time you post. I'm sure this isn't old news to those of you who have received the most recent Proclamation!, but there is a quote from the Desmond Ford article that I want to share. Des Ford can distill the beauty of the gospel down to just one sentence: "We are not saved by faith plus works but by faith that works." I'm sure Dr. Ford wouldn't mind if one of us were to manage to work in the opportunity to quote him!

Actually, EGW & SDAs like to talk about "faith that works" but they mean something different--they mean the works are part of what saves us! So I don't know if that phrase is that good to use. :-)

That is one I want to remember,"We are not saved by faith plus works but my faith that works." It reminds me of something my pastor said in a sermon. It was, "before we can share good news, we have to be good news."
Maybe, Belva, you could put it on the site and after some one responds to it, say where you got it. That is my humanity shining through. Sometimes I can be quite mean. I am sorry God.
You are awesome and I do not want to hurt you.

Here is Colporteur's latest post:

quote:

I would like to encourage my brothers and sisters in the church to retreat from Satan's ground by parlaying with these people any longer. They are not looking for answers. This should be clear by now. They have very little in common with us and have shown clearly they do not respect Pastor OF'fil. They want to come on another's sight, battle us on every point of truth and attempt to make the rules. They are here for one reason alone. That is to attempt to draw away others into apostasy with them. Little do they know that they are working to lead SDA's to receive the mark of the beast. Most of them are no longer our brothers and sisters in the Lord.

I pray for Bucky , but he acts like a wimpering puppy or a spoiled child blaming everyone else for everthing while threatening us with, "You are driving me further away from the SDA church." From the way it sounds Bucky could not get any further away from the church. A spoiled child does this kind of thing in an attempt to manipulate others so they can have their own way. Many youth today want to shun responsibilty by blaming the world for all their problems. Then others come along with a tissue, wipe the nose, pet the ego and encourage the youngster into further rebellion.

Colporteur is a real teddy bear, isn't he? If I needed solace, I don't think I would want to approach him.

You should see the absolute erruption of responses to Dear Colporteur's post. He is calling for a shunning, and declared us all marked as belonging to the beast already. I can't help but feel that he is running scared. After all, his livelihood depends on people buying the red books, and we won't let him quote from them. He has been forced to search the scriptures while trying to respond to us. He uses the same quotes over and over (well, I guess we do, too) and stumbles around trying to put the EGW spin on them so we will smarten up and go away. We aren't going away, so now he's trying to get everyone to ignore us. We must have asked some questions that don't fit into the way they look at things and without the red books they have no answers.

Yes, Bob, I don't think I'd go to him if I needed a brother to pray with either.
