Pheeki, I know that when you say "Jesus is the Force" you mean it in the Biblical sense. However, I think we need to be careful about using New Age language like "the Force" when referring to Christ. The New Age religions mean something entirely different and impersonal by "the Force." To them, there is only one power in the universe, which can express itself as both good and evil. They do not believe in the existence of Satan, nor in what they call the "dualism of good and evil."

Yes, I do mean it biblically. Jesus is everything, the Force!

Pheeki,

I also post on the CARM web site (under the name "byfaithalone") and I saw your comments on this topic over there. They made me chuckle. :-)

Ha! It really is quite funny--in a pathetic sort of way! Thanks for the link, Hannah!

I agree, thanks Hannah for that link. Has anyone seen an official SDA response to this program? Stan

What, you expect any Adventists to watch late night television and then publicly admit to it? What were you thinking? They would have to take off their WWED bracelet first (What Would Ellen Do). Seriously, I did a Google search and I came up with a letter to the editor printed in the magazine noting the resemblance of Jesus' sword to a light saber. It said nothing about Leno, but I think this was before the show aired. http://www.signstimes.com/jan/letters.php
Still humorously,
Hannah

Yikes...the letter to the editor says:

"The cover of the September 2004 Signs somehow looks wrong. Is that supposed to be Jesus with a light saber? If that is what it is supposed to be, how can you print such a picture? Jesus would never bear any type of arms."

The reason the person was upset with the picture wasn't because of the things we've said on here, but rather, "Jesus would never bear any type of arms"!!! How sad and funny at the same time.

The editor's response was:

quote:

Editorís response: We agree that Jesus would not have borne arms in our earthly wars. He Himself said, ìMy kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight.î However, the Bible pictures Michael at war with Satan, the dragon (Revelation 12:7-9), and our September cover was a pictorial representation of that symbolic prophecy. Also, in Revelation 19:11-19 Jesus is depicted as a warrior riding out of heaven on a white horse to do battle with the kings of the earth and their armies.

Then another person wrote:

quote:

I come into contact with many different magazines in my work at the post office, and I get to admire the cover and interior artwork as a result. The other day I came across the September 2004 Signs of the TimesÆ depicting Jesus and Lucifer engaged in a light-sabre duel. I loved it the second I saw it and would like to acquire a copy for my own collection.

In reading about the picture of Jesus and Satan with the light sabers, I read where D. Batchelor wrote that MICHAEL and satan were fighting and in the next paragraph he mentioned Jesus and Satan. I have never seen in the Bible where Jesus is called Michael. Is this another EGW thought??

Yes, EGW and SDA teach that Michael the Archangel is Jesus. Just more of the degrading of Jesus that EGW did frequently. She taught that Jesus was the highest angel in heaven--but not God Almighty.

A lot of ADventists try to side-step the Michael=Jesus idea by saying "michael" is just another name for "Jesus".

It's interesting that the Signs blatantly mentions this controversial doctrine. It's generally one they try to conceal, more or less. It's just too hard to explain!

The SDAs will also point out that some very orthodox writers, and I believe some of the reformers also mistakenly thought Michael was Christ, but I sure don't agree! SDAs are very close to Mormons, and JW's, with this whole Great Controversy theme by putting Christ on an equal plane with Satan. EGW, in Spiritual Gifts Vol. 1 P.18 talked about Satan "to ascertain His (God's) purpose in exalting Jesus, and endowing him..., as if Jesus wasn't already exalted! The Mormons say that Jesus was the spirit brother of Lucifer. I don't see too much difference in the EGW assertion above. For the entire quotes, and an excellent article, see Proclamation! July/August 2004 by Jeffrey Helsius. My vacation here at our river condo has been greatly enhanced by reading all the back issues of Proclamation! Thanks Dale, Richard, and Colleen. Stan

EGW teaches that Jesus and Satan were the two highest angels in heaven. So that's basically saying they are "spirit brothers"--both angels created by "God."

I recently read an article by Doug Batchler while at my moms recently where Mr. Batchler says that Jesus is Michael the Archangel. i asked my mom if she believed that. I also mentioned in my question that that belief was not accurate, in fact it is totally Bibically false. her response was that it is a non-issue to her. She's content on finding out after ashe gets to heaven how those things EGW says that don't make sense really are. So I asked her if she believes EGW is right about so many opf the looney things she says and how does she explain the contradictions between EGW and the Bible. The reply was that the contradictions are only because we are fallen humans and as such we can't understand all the ways of God and when we get to heaven God will let us gain a full understanding of what EGW was trying to convey to us. It just boggles my mind because in every other aspect of my moms life she is extremely intelligent and on top of things. Yet, she reads her bible through every year. I think she doesn't even own any EGW books. Yet, for some reason when she reads the Biblke the Bible and EGW are in agreement and where they are not in agreement she just assumes it's her that is unable to put the two together and not that they really do not agree.

I too was confused by SDA ideology on Satan and Jesus. I got from my education that Satan was around first, that God the Father somehow created Jesus as His Son, and that Satan rebelled because he was jealous. Yet all parts of the Trinity were eternal...

It's like an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, smothered in secret sauce. Question too closley, and you might not last out the IJ!

. . . pickles, onions, on a soy flour bun . . .

I like the "fast food" analogy.

Hold the pickles!

"The mince pies and the pickles, which should never find a place in any human stomach, will give a miserable quality of blood." {TSDF 128.2}

"The blood-making organs can not convert spices, mince pies, pickles, and diseased flesh-meats into good blood." {TSDF 128.3}

"Do not eat largely of salt, avoid the use of pickles and spiced foods, eat an abundance of fruit, and the irritation that calls for so much drink at meal time will largely disappear." {TSDF 128.4}

"In this fast age, the less exciting the food, the better. Condiments are injurious in their nature. Mustard, pepper, spices, pickles, and other things of a like character irritate the stomach and make the blood feverish and impure." {TSDF 128.5}

Belva, you can have pickles, mustard, vinegar and "spices". You just lose your salvation if you do...
