I like Southern Gospel music, too, especially the older type of stuff like the Gaithers, Cathedrals, Vestal Goodman, etc. Ernie Haase of the Cathedrals has a new quartet now, called Signature Sound, and they're pretty good, the little I've heard them.  Jeremy | ||

Speaking of Hymns and worship. I just read the article by Richard, Colleen, And Steve in Proclamation regarding how hymns were tampered with in the SDA hymnal, diminishing the Trinity, and the atonement. All I can say is Wow! what an eye opener. I never realized they could be so devious with re-writing hymns. That article should be presented to Hanegraaf, and to Robert Morey. I tend to love black gospel old and new(Fred Hammond, CeCe Wynans, Donnie McClurkin, Blind Boys of Alabama,Mavis Staples, etc) and also Fernando Ortega. and the gospel songs of Bob Dylan are great. Also, love the sacred classical music by Bach, Mozart, Handel, et.al. even some Chant is good now and then. ;-) Marcell | ||

Faith, I was born in Louisiana, and spent the first 5 years of my life in the south - had family there that we visited too. I always feel a little out of place in my white skin ;-) The church I am in now has a wonderful worship director and choir, which I joined. We do a lot of gospel, and incorporate some latin music and even some old hymns. One of the calls God has put on our church is racial reconciliation, and we are very intentional about including different styles of music. We even got to perform with Sounds of Blackness a couple of years ago - that was an awesome time!! What part of the south are you in? Marcell | ||

Marcell, Racial Reconciliation?!! Awesome!!! The church that I am attending could use just a tad bit of soul! I am in Alabama by the way. I watch TBN all of the time and I get incredible joy watching the coming together of the races. The Pastor of the church that my hubby and I have been visiting is coming to our house on Sunday. My intentions are to talk to him about the vision of the church. I know that he desires a multicultural congregation; I just want to know how hard he is willing to work in order to make it happen. Any suggestions? I am willing to help as much as possible. I want the best of both worlds. You are blessed! By the way, do you have Donnieís new cd? | ||

Well, you really have to believe in reconciliation to make it happen - believe that Jesus died for it!! We have actually hired a consultant from Chicago that comes here and speaks and does research and training, etc. She is awesome - but we have to do the real work. There are some good books out there. But mostly it has to be a real vision of the leadership -and they have to really talk about it - like, until people are sick of hearing about it! I could give you a link to our website where there are some awesome sermons you can download and listen to. it is: www.whchurch.org I don't have the new cd - can't afford a lot of new music, but I did watch the gospel awards a few weeks ago and saw Donnie get a big honor.
