I guess things are a little more interesting and sad sometimes. A strange and ongoing problem in my life resolved itself in a terrible way this week. A person who was an ongoing threat and a daily security concern got himself killed... shot twice by police while making threats. I walked by him minutes before he was killed, but didn't even see him. It's very hard to know how to feel about this kind of thing -- such a tragedy. On the other hand, the security concern is no longer there, and we don't have to watch every time we go for coffee or lunch. It is really sad, though, to see this person give up their life. | ||

CB, I am sorry for your having to experience this trauma. It is OK to be thankful for the relief of the security threat. In ambivalent situations I often have to just fall back on texts such as 1 Thessalonian 5:16-18: "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Sometimes I simply pray that God will help me to know how I should feel and what I should know. I'm sorry--I empathize with your conflicting feelings. In God's sovereignty, though, nothing is wasted, and He redeems everything we submit to Him. With prayers for you, Colleen | ||

I have been doing some work with and for the mentally ill, did you know that a recent study says that in spite of medical advances the mentally ill are about at the same level of care they were 100 years ago? This person possibly (at least sounds like) may have been mentaly ill. It is sad, but we are very helpless in many cases to do anything. Colleen's text is helpful.God is merciful! CB: I am continuing to hold you in my prayers. I understand (as many here do) living through incredible tragedy. I think the most difficult lesson of God's Truths for me to deal with is that He doesn't answer 'why' these things happen...He simply asks us to trust Him. I agree that Scripture is the way to peace. Solace is found there. Patria p.s. I have a theory that this is one of the reasons (though unconscious) that SDAs have a hard time leaving, SDAism offers an answer to 'why' even though it's a lie. | ||

Patria, I couldn't agree more completely. As we decided to leave the church, Richard and I became increasingly clear that the Great Controversy "model" is truly evil. It give Satan a much more powerful, prominent position than he really has. He is NOT fighting a battle with Jesus! Jesus is God; Satan is a creature. Jesus has already defeated Satan at the cross; it just remains for him to be finally destroyed. Unless he was seriously delusional, I don't believe Satan ever thought he could win over GOD Himself! He's just a manipulator and deceiver who wants to attach as many as he can to his own agenda. Praise God that He is totally, completely sovereign! Colleen | ||

Here is how I see Satan. If some one really wants to hurt some else, I mean really hurt them, they know the best way to do that is to hurt their loved ones, especially their children. So, because we are God's children, Satan is doing all he can to hurt the human race in any way he can. He knows he cannot hurt God. Jesus did not stay in the grave. He was resurrected. So Satan cannot hurt God. So he will hurt God's children. But, thank God, we really do not have to worry about that. Jesus conquered Satan at the cross. He is a defeated foe. Thank you Jesus.
