Does anyone know of any study/discussion groups in the Atlanta area regarding issues addressed in this forum. Or even churches?

Thanks for the email responses. And does anyone love contempory Christian music? Wouldnt it be fun to meet up at some concerts? My email is 4excape@bellsouth.net

Ginny Owens my favorite singer:
"FREE"
My mind finds it hard to believe
That you became humanity
and changed the course of history,
Because you loved me so.
And my heart cannot understand
Why you'd accept me as I am,
But you say you've always had a plan,
And that's all I need to know.
So when I am consumed by what the world will say,
It's then You're singing to me, as you remove my chains

Your free to dance-
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing-
Even joyful noise is music to Me
And your're free to love,
Cause I've given you My love,
and it's made you free
I have set your free....

Leigh, Isnt her music and message great! Her song "If you want me to" was a true turning point for me a number of years ago. I was driving, and somehow got to a christian radio station, and that song was playing. I was in the blackest period of my life, a truly horrible time, everything was crashing around me, and when I heard those lyrics "so if all of these trials, bring me closer to You, Then I will walk thru the fire, if you want me to.....Im gonna go thru the valley, if you want me to."
And I remember thinking " you stupid b----" I was so angry with God at that point, and bitter.
But I couldnt get the song out of my head. And I wondered how anyone could say that to God and mean it. And I broke down and bought the CD, to try to understand that thinking, and cried the whole first few months I listened to it. And driving around one day while listening to it, is when I discovered the community bible study at a local church, and went ahead and signed up for it. That was the beginning of a incredible transformation in my relationship with God, and the beginning of studying for myself to find truth. When I went to her concert, I was shocked to find out that she was blind!
Now the song "I wanna be moved" speaks to me...
"wanna be a rebel, with a Holy cause,
stand against the devi and hold up my cross
you have a mission for me; a reason why I'm here,
to radiate your Glory, with sweet songs to you ears..."

javagirl,
thanks for sharing your story.
The song "if you want me to.." is one of my favorites also. My sister gave me a cd with that song on it right after we found out my husband's cancer had spread and he would need to start chemo. That song was one of the ones that carried me through. That was almost 6 years ago. My husband has since recovered fully, Thank you Lord!

"If You want me to" by Ginny Owens

The pathway is broken
And the signs are unclear
And I dont know the reason why you brought me here
But just because You love me the way that You do
I will go through the valley
If You want me to

CHORUS:
Now I'm not who I was
When I took my first step
And I'm clinging to the promise
You're not through with me yet
So if all of these trials bring me closer to You
I will go through the fire
If You want me to

It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my own
But You never said it would be easy
You only said I'll never go alone

So when the whole world turns against me
And I'm all by myself
And I can't hear You answer my cries for help
I'll remember the suffering Your love put You through
And I will go through the valley
If You want me to

Leigh,
Those are beautiful words. Thanks for sharing them.
By the way, are you the Leigh who got her ears pierced just before her 40th birthday last year?

Speaking of song lyrics, this morning one of the songs we sang was "Embrace this Place."

Embrace this place O'Lord
How we want to see your glory
Embrace this place O'Lord
How we long to feel your spirit
Lord we sing so You can hear it
And receive all the praise

Draw us near to Your heart O'God
Let us rest our heads on Your chest
Place our hands in Yours O'Lord
Holds us face to face, embrace this place

I don't know why, but when I sing about resting my head on His chest it always makes me just sob. I think of all the times in my life when that's all that got me through, resting my head on His chest, letting Him hold me tight. It was such a blessing this morning.....because of my trip to Mexico and also to our lakehouse with family, I hadn't been to church in a month. I was so filled with His Spirit........and so amazed that He continues to love me as filthy and sinful and awful as I am. Another song just before we entered church on the radio was one with the lyrics, "Amazing Love, how can it be? That you my King should die for me?" It just blows my mind sometimes to think that our Savior and King, Ruler of the Universe, loves us like that.

Sorry, I'm kind of emotional right now. Just finished watching "The Notebook," which I had not yet seen. So I'm just gushing about everything at the moment.

By the way, Javagirl, since I had not been to church in a few weeks, I didn't know our summer schedule is just one service at 10:00 a.m. So even though we arrived at 11:00 and had missed the sermon, the entire congregation had broken into groups to pray for a number of things, our youth camp which begins this week, for our country, and especially for the unsaved of Cobb County. Then had communion, then that song. I guess I'm just trying to say I was tremendously blessed today without even hearing the sermon!

Any others that might be in the Atlanta area....we have another Alpha course beginning soon. It's a wonderful ministry of presenting the gospel, and even for Christians, I have found it to be a powerful tool to increase my faith and witness.

OK, my eyes have dried and I'm going to try and straighten up now before I have to take out my contacts!

Love and prayers for you all, Carol

We're here in Atlanta for a mini-vacation, right now (well, the hotel is in Norcross). Tonight we went to the laser and fireworks show at Stone Mountain Park and it was a blast! We enjoyed it right along with about 30 or 40 thousand other people. Tomorrow night we're going to the Braves-Cubs game so I just hope the rain holds off.

Yes, the laser show is pretty impressive....good thing you went tonight, tomorrow night you'd spend hours just getting out of the parking lots afterwards (that might have happened to you tonight too!) Enjoy the ballgame......my step-son works there......not sure what level/area though. I know our girls buy the cheapest tickets, then he takes them to better seats and gets them free food, so they're suddenly big Braves fans.

Don't remember where you are from, but are you a Cubs fan????

Have fun....hope you enjoy Atlanta...I've lived here for 21 years now (originally from Southern Illinois,) and it's definitely home now. Would never want to live anywhere else.

Take Care, Carol #2

Carol,

We used to go to Cubs games once in a while when I was in school at Andrews so I became a semi-fan then. I watched both the Braves and Cubs as a teenager since both broadcast their games nationally. My favorite team is the Angels, since I grew up in Anaheim, and until about 3 years ago they were as hapless as the Cubs, having never won a World Series either, so now after Boston won and broke their curse, I'm hoping the Cubs will finally break theirs sometime soon. We're sitting up on the top deck tonight on the first base side -- the best available according to their website -- so I'm sure it will be packed tonight, also.

Yes, the crowds at Stone Mountain were pretty horrendous. I don't know how we ever found a place to put our chairs on the lawn. Walking back to the van afterward was like being stuck in the middle of a herd of cows, barely moving most of the way. Getting out of the parking lot was just as fun but it was all worth it.

I was visiting family over the weekend. 3ABN was on (as usual) with coverage of the GC session. I heard them say that the next GC session in 2010 would be in Atlanta.

Thanks for warning me Leigh. No disrespect intended, but I am confident I will have SDA family from all over wanting to stay with me, with the goal of getting their deceived and former loved one (me) somehow interested and involved. I continue, as I'm sure many of you do also, to sense my SDA family believing someday, somehow, I'm coming back into the fold.

I think I will plan ahead and be on vacation during the session that year.

Just a reminiscence! My son was just a toddler when we lived in Georgia. We went to Stone Mountain and all I can remember of that trip is that he fell and got his first real boo-boo on his knee! That was 30 years ago!
