Yes, we do according to SDA doctrine. On page 420 in the book Questions on Doctrine it says of man, "He is responsible for his influence during life, and is just as surely responsible for his evil influence after he is dead. To quote the words of the poet, 'The evil that men do lives after them', leaving a trail of sin to be charged to the account. In order to be just, it would seem that God would need to take all these things into account in the jusdement." It's mew again. Now I don't know about you all but whjen I came across this statement while reading last night I was totally floored! A sin account? Is that something like a credit card? If so, than Jesus has paid off my account in full. This statement goes against numerous basic Christian teachings. Let's have a discussion on this. Several of you folks out there are former SDA ministers. How would you have defended this statement when you were a SDA preacher if a totally non-SDA were to ask for an explaniantion? |

My guess is the defense would be that it is undeniable our actions (good or bad) have a ripple affect, that carries beyond our life. Apparently, EGW thought we're eternally responsible for what we started. As far as I know, there's nothing Biblical to back that up.
And yes, our account has been paid in full. So if we're forgiven, I'm sure the ripple affect into the future is forgiven also. |

I agree that we've been forgiven of all future effects of our sins. But the idea itself of being held responsible for the future effects of your sins seems to make sense (and it's what I have believed, after leaving Adventism even). To use EGW as an example ( ), wouldn't it make sense that her "account" is still being "charged" when people are deceived by her writings, etc.?

Hi all,
Jeremy, you brought up a very interesting angle on this subject, (cool) and here is my take on it. I think that her account being charged for the sins of misleading people is more clearly represented in 2Peter 2. The Bible clearly states the fate of those who knowingly led and teach people wrong. Now, no one can say whether or not Ellen repented for these sins, but God. No one knows if she ever accepted Jesus as her Savior, but the Lord. We will all see one, though, won't we? |
