Since I love both contemporary music and hymns the recent album of hymns performed by Jars of Clay was a no-brainer for me. One hymn from the album really sticks with me long after listening. Last Sunday my husband and I were able to lead worship at our new church. I always worship "better" (is that PC??) when I am playing as well as singing (or thinking the words in my head!). We taught a song new to the church, one that I had only previously heard on the radio, and at a conference where the author led worship. It's called "Offering" by Paul Baloche, known for writing "Above All," and "Open the Eyes of My Heart." The sun cannot compare to the glory of Your love There is no shadow in Your presence No mortal man would dare to stand before Your throne Before the Holy One of Heaven And itís only by Your blood And itís only by Your mercy Lord, I come I bring an offering of worship to my King No one on Earth deserves the praises that I sing Jesus, may You receive the honour that youíre due Oh, Lord, I bring an offering to you. My favorite line in the song is "Then sings my soul...." because that is what truly happens. There is also an album of hymns by 4Him that is really good! It has songs like The Solid Rock, Be Thou My Vision, When Peace Like a River, O Sacred Head, Holy, Holy, Holy, The Love of God, Great is Thy Faithfulness. I cry every time I listen to it. The songs & words mean so much more to me now that I've found freedom in Christ! | ||

Melinda,I have that 4Him cd. I love "The Solid Rock." Last night we went to our home group from church and we had a evening devoted to singing hymns and discussing them. (our service on Sunday is contemporary with a few hymns now and then.) There were plenty of tears from quite a few present. I have also been introduced to hymns I never sang growing up sda. "Before the Throne of God Above" and "Man of Sorrows" are two of the ones I don't remember seeing in the sda hymnal. You Are God Alone is so powerful! Thanks for posting the words, Heretic. I love singing that song to the Lord. Oh, Leigh--I know what you mean! I fnd myelf raising my hand high when I'm alone in my kitchen often! And isn't it amazing how God often puts songs into our minds when we awaken in the morning? I am just learning Christian songs from my church and I really like how God is praised in each song. As an SDA I did not buy SDA music to listen to an sabbath. Couldn't afford it. I am glad now I could not, so my son missed that indoctrination also. Thank you God. While singing at church I am beginning to lift my hand while I sing when it is a God centered song. I do not know the words of all these songs, but I am learning them. Praise God for God centered music. God you are awesome. Diana | ||
