Chris,
I agree, that is one of the best comprehensive statements on the gospel that there is. I also was impressed by the variety of people who signed the statement, including a lot of my favorites.

What is also very interesting is the statement on what the atonement is and is not, especially since on the Spectrum forum we are going to see a lot of liberal views on the atonement. They clearly said that anyone who denies the substitutionary propitiating atonement of Christ is denying the gospel. This is exactly what liberal Adventism is doing when they deny the blood atonement, or for that matter liberalism in general, because there is a lot of it in the so-called evangelical world, but that statement really defines what an evangelical is.

Thanks Chris, that is helpful. I scanned the link, and it just made me feel blessed reading it briefly. I saved it for further in depth review!

Historical/Conservative/Traditional Adventism also denies the atonement of Jesus on the cross.

And the atonement is not even complete until Satan bears the sins of the righteous, according to the satanic scapegoat doctrine. This is Adventism's unique (blasphemous and satanic!!!) version of "limited atonement"!!

Jeremy,
Isn't it interesting that Reformed theology is considered heretical by historical SDAs because it teaches that Christ died only for the elect. But in their religion, Satan is the scapegoat and the sin-bearer of the elect.

Belva, Your post on the Spectrum forum under the Why Jesus Died? thread was truly a great statement of faith. What a great witness you have been over there.

Thanks, Stan, but someone has just posted and spanked me for taking a little poetic license. That's okay, though, because that individual didn't go out on a limb and state how he feels about why Jesus died. It reminds me so much of sitting in bible classes and having everything intellectualized to death!

By the way, did you notice that they stripped off the thread about EGW?

I haven't been on this website in some time. I didn't know that we were supposed to pray for the Adventist Church any more than a NT christian was supposed to pray for the Laodicean Church. I guess I am still trying to find my way now that I don't have the benefit of having the "gospel" presented to me from a cultural perspective. (I am trying to not us the word "cult"; I don't think I know what that is nowadays anyway).

:-) I don't know that we're 'supposed to' pray for the Adventist church, just that we do because we care about the people who are still where we used to be.

Belva,
I noticed the absence of the EGW thread this morning and made a comment about it, supporting you and Stan.
As I have said before, so we continue praying for them.
Our God is so awesome.
