This may be very elementary but does anyone know where there is a text that says the discples were baptized? | ||

Violet, I don't know of a text that says they were baptized, but I know that Peter baptized Cornelius and his household, and on the day of Pentecost, the receptive Jews asked "Peter and the other apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?' î In response, Peter said they must repent and be baptized, and 3,000 Jews were baptized that day, apparently by the apostles. We can infer that they were baptized at some point, but I don't believe we have any texts saying when. Colleen | ||

What I am looking for is if there is an incident when someone went through the motions of baptism but their heart was not converted. I was thinking about Judus. | ||

I think there's probably circumstancial evidence that several had John's baptism at least - they went from being 'disciples of John' to 'diciples of Jesus'.  | ||

Violet, Look in Acts 8:9-24. Simon, a man who formerly was practicing magic in the city of Samaria, seems to fit the bill of going through the motions of baptism but not having a heart of conversion and acceptance. It seems he was enthralled with the power that Philip had and his motive to be baptized was to obtain the same power Philip had but not the holiness or righteousness that a changed life brings. It is a very interesting story. | ||
