I'm too busy to look for any more old adventist books right now. I'll do it when I get around to it. I was busy reading other stuff on this former adventist website. I will frequently post here. Thank you ever so much for this website and God Bless all of your efforts!

The latest church manual is accessible through the official SDA website (www.adventist.org). Also, the writings attributed to Ellen White are readily accessible through various websites (i.e., www.ellenwhite.org and/or www.ellenwhite.com). Therefore, we can do all our research online.

Sylvia and I filled our large dumpster with EGW/SDA books (we don't have a fireplace). The dumpster was so heavy (the lid would not close) that it was very difficult to wheel it to the curb for pickup the next morning. While having breakfast the next morning, we suddenly heard a very loud crash as all our SDA books crashed into the bed of the garbage truck. We regarded the loud sound as heavenly music. Needless to add, we have never missed even one of those books. This curbside earthquake was an important milestone in our quest for biblical truth. We also didn't want anyone to get access to our SDA book collection.

A little off this subject, but can someone tell me what EGW web sites are SDA origin, and what sites are anti-SDA? Appreciate your help.

Dennis, I've always loved that story of yours and Sylvia's!

Blacksheep, I can't give you an exhaustive list, but here are some of the major sites exposing Adventism:

sdaoutreach.org
LifeAssuranceMinistries.org
EllenWhite.org
TruthorFables.com
Sabbaths.org
Abraham911.com

If you're not sure about a site, usually the Home Page (or the "about us" page many sites have) should give you some information.

Dennis, I just finished reading the official SDA website. I first went to the topic labled Faces of SDA's and lo-and-behold I actually know one person of the dozen or so on there. Then I went to the church manuel. I couldn't help but notice as I was reading through the church manual there are a lot of quotes by EGW and a few Bible texts given. It does state in that book that the General Conference of the SDA's is the highest authority under God on earth. That one ranks right up there with Catholics who think of the pope as head honcho. I sure wish one of those church manuels could be placed into the hands of every SDA, maybe they would read it and see for themselves how cultic and non-Bibical the SDA church is.

I will keep some of these older adventist books for proof of where they stand. God has shown me some very clear satanic stuff with regard to Mrs. White. I was reading Testimonies for the Church 1944 Edition. The portion titled "Our Denomination Name" is one. It clearly shows in a small sweet chapter the Protestant world as the beast, speaks of risen fanatics, etc. I loved showing this to my baptist husband. They are being so deceptive in our community with regard to other evangelical churches. Pray that I might be able to help lift the curtain so to speak so that other sincere christians can see what the church is about and that people here can learn true salvation without this cult interrupting the spirit.

We threw ours in the trash. The problem is, though, that my husband's family keeps sending them to us for Christmas, etc. Id goes so against my grain to throw out any new book, but I do it anyway.
I have a question though... anyone have any issue with the Uncle Arthur Bedtime stories? My husbands family sends those, and I get rid of them too, but I looked through them and didn't see any overt SDA references.....
What do you guys think?

Clarification... I did keep one SDA book, the "27 things Adventists believe" book, for reference, when non-SDAs say "SDA's are just a Saturday-going version of the rest of us, they aren't really any different"

The 27 things adventists believe is on the adventist website at adventist.org/beliefs/fundamental. They have a search box on the right side, where you could put in words like "beast" and see what comes up.

Most of our EG White books are going into a box and will be mixed with the yard droppings of our dogs and my dirty cat liter. They will be damaged making them worthless. We will be sure to open and damage the pages while cleaning up after our pets. I just know putting them straight in the trash is not safe from people who look for things in trash cans and at the dump. I don't want any of them to land on ebay.

While doing some research on the Adventist view of death, I found several theological errors in the SDA book titled, "Seventh-day Adventists Believe" that were not directly related to my inquiry. I did not intend to search for them. They just appeared before my eyes within moments.

Here are some excerpts for your digestion (smile):

PAGE 95 (speaking about the New Covenant): "It offers the Holy Spirit's work of writing the Ten Commandments on the heart." Apparently, whenever they see the word "commandments" they preface it with the number ten (SDA double vision).

PAGE 235: (referring to the Ten Commandments): "...they cover every possible sin." What about the sins of polygamy, homosexuality, drunkeness, wife beating, etc. that are not included in the Decalogue list?

PAGE 238: "God's law is the instrument the Holy Spirit uses to convert the soul." This belief is based upon the mistranslation of the KJV in Psalms 19:7. Most Bible translations use the words "reviving" and "restoring" the soul. The New Jerusalem Bible uses "refreshment" to the soul. Truly, the Law does not CONVERT anyone. Paul refers to it as the ministry of death and condemnation.

Also, on another page, I noticed that they were referring to the "fruits" of the Spirit instead of the singular "fruit" as recorded in Scripture. I am amazed that the writers of this official book consider themselves theologians.

Interesting finds, Dennis.

Lynne, we threw out our Uncle Arthur stories, too. At first they didn't seem so bad, but as the months passed, we realized that they were full of tales explaining that children had to perform well to be considered "good"--it was a heavy "righteousness by works" course for kids.

While I agree that children need to learn to obey and accept discipline and become responsible, there needs to be the component of repentance and understanding Jesus' sacrifice and surrendering to Him, etc. Salvation was completely missing from Uncle Aurthur. Present was the idea that good children get strokes, bad children reap trouble. They were all about righteousness by works.

We got rid of them, too. (I can't remember exactly how--we may have burned them with the rest.)

I remember being so happy to get a set of Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Story books out for our kids. . . and then searching thru them for an appropriate story to read to them and coming up empty.

Some of it was because they were so young, some of it was because it described kids who did things my kids had not yet even heard of, and some of it was that it was from a 'grown-up voice' - often humerous if read from the adult's perspective, but over the head of the kids. Lots of 'now be good girlies and boys!' kind of rhetoric.

Also, yes they are very full of 'works'. There are a few really sweet stories in there, but there's so much other good reading material out there that going thru life without those particular books is not a deprivation.

Okay, I had soo many EG White books. Many in excellent condition. The newer revisions we put in water today, painted some of the pages red for fun and cemented the page ends. They are in our recycle bin.

Lynne, I have no fear that you will find any and all disposal methods necessary to rid yourself, and others, of the EGW books. It is cathartic to go through those motions, but I'm also praying that you will be able to put this, too, behind you and then move on into the joy of the Lord.

Blessings to you and to your family.

I'm curious as to what makes you think that I haven't yet moved on to the joy of the Lord.

Forgive me. I know when I was dealing with my own load of EGW printed matter I was simply focussed on getting them out of my house in a manner that wouldn't harm anyone. Once they were gone, I took a deep cleansing breath and put all of that behind me, even so far as to forget they used to take up half the shelf space in my house. That is all I was talking about. The true Joy in the Lord is already at work in your life, and we have all been witness to that in your posts. I was just saying that it's good to get rid of that distraction!

You don't need to ask for forgiveness. I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. I'm not opposed to correction either. Throwing these books out just wasn't a big deal to me. I have sold some adventist material on ebay so I have a lot extra around here. I threw out at least a good $500 in profits, but it wasn't very time consuming. I'm just keeping the old unrevised stuff. Two of the books I have of EG White I opened and was amazed at the short, to the point core message of the church from Mrs. White in a vision. It is the basis of the whole church. It is what is below the layer. Nowhere have I seen it clearer. When I get a chance I will scan a small chapter and post it on the page of an anonymous website I have and I'll drop the link off here. The holy spirit is working and the lights are on and the joy of the Lord is here. Have a great day and bless you to!

Better said - I'm not closed to correction, I'm just naturally opposed to it :-)
