My granddaughter is in second grade. So far all of her formal education has been at the local SDA school. She does not attend SS often but the few times she has gone to church it has been at the SDA. The child is enthralled with Ekllen White. I referred to EGW once in my granddaughters presence as Mrs. White and the little girl, who was then in kindergarten told me to refer to Ellen White as Ellen White because any other way to refer to her was disrespectful. Anyway, I am babysitting the grandchildren for an entire week. I am exhuasted and tired but that is another topic. I have been taking the little girl to and from school each day. Today when she got in the car to go home I asked her to tell me about school today. She told me she learned how to have visions. Wow! I thought, that is just too cool so I asked her to demonstrate how to have a vision. She gazed upward and put her fingers to her head and made zapping sounds and viola! she had a vision. I asked her what her vision was. Her vision was that i was going to take her to Burger King. So I took her to Mc Donal Then she told me she learned at school how to tell the future from visions and she asked to to ask her questions about the future. We went through a lot of corney stuff and then I asked her to get a vision about tea. I asked her if tea is o.k. to drink. She told me yes, tea is o.k. to drink but people who drink tea need to brush their teeth afterwards because it gives them bad breath. I asked her is ice cream was o.k. to eat. EGW says sugar and milk should nevwer be eaten together and I wanted to find out if my grandchilds visions werwe in sinc with EGW's visions. I was informed that her vision showed that ice cream is one of the very beast foods to eat. Strike one for EGW. I asked her when Jesus was coming back and I was told not for a long, long time. I asked her if He was coming on Oct. 22, 2044 thinking maybe EGW was off by 200 years. The answer I got from Miss Second Grade was, "How should I know. That is only for God to know." Strike two for EGW. I asked her if Jesus had to move from his apartment into a different apartment and I was told that was really dumb because Jesus doesn't live in an apartment, He lives in heaven. Strike three for EGW. Finily I told her I was tired of playing visions, I'd satisified my curiosity about such things. Which of course I am in no way mocking real, honest, God-given encounters, I want to make that clear. I told her tomorrow I'll teach her how to play hippy and we'll hullicinate together. How's that saying go? "Out of the mouth of babes?". | ||

Susan, What would happen it you showed her from the Bible that EGW is a false prophet? I know she is a little girl, but you can read Bible stories to her from the Bible to counter what she is learning at school. Just a thought. Diana | ||

Diana, It is a very touchy situtation. I am here to serve, not to interfear. That has been made clear to me. I actually say things in a very non-confrontational way. I cannot come right out and tell a little child that her heroine is a fake. I can though do as you say and read her real Bible stories about real Bible personalities, Joseph, Daniel, Moses, Abraham and then the greats in the NT. I also try to make sure I share with her stories of Bible women, Rachel, Mary, Elizabeth, etc. i do not feel comfortable considering the family dynamics to come right out and tell the little girl EGw is a fraud. It was a good idea to take her to McDonalds instead of Burger King. Playing along, but making it clear that you don't consider it anything more than a game is a great idea. No true Adventist would even consider the idea that just anyone can be taught to be another Sister White. I think she is just taking the stories of Mrs. White and doing what kids do by pretending to be their hero. | ||

Dennis, that online Spurgeon archive at www.spurgeon.org is so rich, you could spend hours there reading his sermons. There is so much depth to everything he wrote. Every time I read one of his sermons I am so blessed. Stan | ||
