I was lurking on the R/S site and was reading something that got my curiousity up. Some one quoted a verse from the New Colporteur Translation. Have any of you heard of it??? It appears to be a Bible. Diana | ||

Diana, NCT is usually an abbreviation for New Covenant Theology. However, the R/S forum participants are not known to be familiar with it. Of course, the colporteur's second Bible is Ellen White's "Colporteur Ministry" (now labeled "Publishing Ministry"). I am also wondering if it is something new. By the way, shortly after embracing biblical Christianity, I discarded my literature evangelist sales trophy displayed in my office. I could no longer be proud of its representation or implied achievement. To me, it was like an idol that represented the dark side of Adventism; namely, trickery and deception. Dennis J. Fischer | ||

Dennis, Thank you for saying it like it is. I know in my heart that I was tricked and decieved into what appeared to be a church, but was actually a cult. I enjoyed reading the bible when I started there and did see things that bothered me in what they taught, but I really didn't know any better having grown up in an ex-Catholic home. All of the untruths were seeds sprinkled and eventually planted. The seeds were watered and took root so I could finally become a good adventist and never leave the truth or the remnant. However, God is bigger than any seed planted. Don't feel too bad, probably a lot of people threw the material away. How many people did you hear in church say, "Oh, I read an Ellen White book and it so inspired me, here I am!" But unfortunately, we know the material is out there and does corrupt some minds. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, and I never cease to be amazed at the similarities between Adventism and Mormonism. The thinking seems to be if the material is inspirational then that should be divine evidence that it is true. Do you want to get rid of a bad habit? Do you want to improve relationships in your family? Do you want to increase your spiritual capacity? Read the Book of Mormon! It will bring you closer to the Lord and His loving power. 45 He who fed a multitude with five loaves and two fishes 46óHe who helped the blind to see and the lame to walk 47ócan also bless you! He has promised that those who live by the precepts of this book ìshall receive a crown of eternal life.î 48 The Book of Mormon is true! I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." The Mormons have very inspiring devotionals as well (see for example, http://www.byui.edu/Presentations/Transcripts/Devotionals/2003_08_05_Bulloch.htm), and at the end of every testimony they say "I know that the Church is true.", but does that make it so? They, too, tell their faithful, that if they seriously entertain the idea that there are faults in the teachings of Joseph Smith that there will be no stopping until they completely apostatize, and no longer believe the Holy Scriptures either. That is a religion of fear, not a religion of love. It is also a belief system that puts works way ahead of the recognition that "all our righteousness is as filthy rags." While this is off the initial subject of this thread, something that is fascinating is to see how the Mormons developed their theory that blacks were inferior to whites from Adventism (George McCready Price and Ellen White).
