Hmmmmmm.......so when they require their elders and leaders to "divest" themselves of all asssets and income above a certan threshold, who exactly becomes the beneficiary of such divestment? I just don't see any biblical command mandating that no one make or have anything more than anyone else. I acknoweledge that the early Church lived in community with each other and shared everything, but I certianly don't see a command saying that elders and leaders can only made X dollars per year and own Y in assets before they need to begin divesting themselves. I guess people like Abraham, Job, and others couldn't have been leaders in Xenos. I wonder, if you're a doctor would you be disqualified from Xenos or would you just have to donate everything above $80K to Xenos? By the way, the $80K threshold is combined household income even if there are two workers in the home. Maybe they should index their income limit to cost of living in different areas of the country. I went to the web page and read some doctrinal points they seemed ok, but I just kept getting this creepy feeling, it seemed like big brother is watching everything. After a careful analytical discussion with my self I came up with yech. You can have the best doctrine on the planet if you try and make enough rules to make a perfect church you just end up with a bunch of weird legalists. Ops was that harsh? | ||

These guys give me a real, bad feeling. They seem to be organized like the Boston Church of Christ--which is a very controlling, dangerous cult. The Boston Church of Christ started in Cincinnati---not all that far from these folks in Columbus, Ohio. The Boston church would always organize very near a college campus--and that's where these folks are. Every dangerous cult I've seen has wound up being house based. One of the leaders mentioned is a guy named Rick Armentrout and I'm trying to remember where I've heard/seen or read the name before. (I used to live in Springboro, OH, so I know the area). Nope, I'd stay FAAAAAR away from these folks. | ||

Willy, Your statement is not too harsh. They seem to have the basics, but when they start adding to the requirements they get in the way of the Holy Spirit. While we need to be careful in who is placed in leadership roles, one must not make is so cut and dried even Jesus would not of had time to be made team leader before His death. V |
