Today, my daughter called me from college and said "mom do we have a guardian angel? All my life I was taught that we each had a guardian angel at birth". I said I thought so, I would look in the Bible. She wanted to know if it was biblical or EGW that taught us that.

I looked in the online Bible search and didn't find "guardian angel". Does anyone know whether that was an adventist thing or is it biblical? I know about the "angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him" but wanted a verse specifically about an angel assigned to us individually, if there is such a verse!
Thanks!

Psalms 91:11 (Living Bible) says "For he orders his angels to protect you wherever you go."

This is the text that has always been used to validate the idea of guardian angels. I cannot be sure that there is a single angel that is assigned to eahc of us. This is like the discussions of the rapture in that the word "rapture" does not appear in scripture. By the same token, there doesn't appear to be the phrase "guardian angel" in scripture.

Here is a verse that says at least the 'little ones' have angels:

"See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." Matthew 18:10

When Peter was let out of prison and knocked on the door, and Rhoda went back to tell everyone Peter was there, they told her "No, it must be his angel." Just because they thought it was, doesn't do anything to tell us the facts of whether or not we each have our own angel. But with the Matthew 18:10 text from Jesus' own words, posted above, that sounds settled to me.

Thank you all! She will be happy to get these verses. I think it was one of her comforts in life!
