I received Bob George's May Newsletter yesterday, and was blessed by several of the articles there. But I found special meaning in "Called to a Person". To me this is an excellent presentation of the difference between being called to 'works' and being called to Jesus. Let us abide in Him!

Any comments?

Blessings,

Mary

Mary I read the newsletter and loved it and subscribed to it myself.

One text/quote:

You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life (John 5:39,40)

It behooves us ALL to not get stuck in just the study of scripture but to also lose ourselves in a relationship with God as well.

"Come to ME" is His call.

Mary,
I do like that article. His point is that many in Christianity (not just SDA) get caught up in a works mentality. I loved his reference to all the self-help books that are in Christian book stores. Some stores are filled with books telling you about 5 steps to lose weight, or 10 steps to a happier life--there are just tons of formulas. Most of it is works based. If Christians would spend more time actually studying the Bible, and contemplating the glories of Christ, then a lot of these self help books would stay on the shelves unread.

Mary, wonderful article. Bob George's book "Classic Christianity" was a watershed experience for me about six years ago. He so clearly talks about the fact that our identities are IN CHRIST, and that is the only identity we can have. We can't be both "in Christ" and "a worrier", for example. We have to surrender the identities that previously defined us to ourselves and take on only one: "in Christ".

It reminds me of what my last principal at ACA said one day when I was talking to him: "Self-esteem is a lie from the pit of hell. There is NO self esteem outside of Christ."

I agree.
