OK, you've all heard me complain for a couple years about the difficulty of not belonging as we've tried to assimilate outside of Adventism. I am writing to let you know that God has done healing in our lives and every week is better at our church. I'm not sure what has happened except that God has brought people one week after another to come over and say hello, ask us how we are doing, etc. I'm not feeling as needy either as God is always right in the middle of my day and life. I just wanted to encourage those of you still lonely and feeling awkward. It's been 2 years and is just now feeling like we belong. Other things have happen also, like our Adventist family is getting more use to the idea of this being really truly us. In doing so, they will occasionally join us when things could be awkward for them, such as our son's birthday party that was scheduled for a Saturday. They will come to that but not our older son's ball game, but we are taking what we can, and giving grace for the rest as they are trying to do what they believe is right. Hang in there, anyone out there struggling. God is faithful, it will only get better if you don't give in to cultural pressure of Adventism, trust Him and let time work it's course.

Dear Lisa, Praise God! It does take time, but He is faithful, and the intervening months become part of the package He redeems. Thanks for sharing your continuing experience.

Lisa, I'm so glad to hear your experience. That 2-year thing really is amazing. I remember when my wife and I were struggling so greatly to figure out how and where we would fit in now that we had left SDAism. And several people mentioned that it takes a couple of years to process out. That has turned out to be so true. We found a church that is very good place for healing, but I think it took a while before we were even ready for such a place. Colleen is right, it does take time. And even as we are settling in somewhere, we still realize that there is plenty of Spiritual healing that still needs to occur.
