Hello!
I noticed on my calendar that tomorrow, (Thursday, 5/25) is "Ascension Day".
Acts 1:9-11 (Message)
"...As they watched, he was taken up and disappeared in a cloud. They stood there, staring into the empty sky. Suddenly two men appeared...They said, '...Why do you just stand here looking up at an empty sky? This very Jesus who was taken up from among you to heaven will come as certainly -- and mysteriously -- as he left.'"
I'm brand new to the New Covanent and the idea of Grace And Nothing Else. On another thread one of you spoke of the "code". It seems I keep hearing the "code" when I'm listening for the "Voice". Then I have to talk with Him again, and He gets me straightened out. Then it happens again! He must be getting tired of it. He's patient though.
What I know for sure is that I've "met" Him and now He is my Friend. For the first time in my life I want to actually see Him and touch Him and chat face to face.

Pegg, thank you for reminding us about Ascension Day! Without Jesus' ascension, our redemption would not be complete. It was a crucial part of His finished work. Praise Him!
I understand your feelings about finding you actually love Jesus. It is still amazing to me.

Since becoming a Christian, I am learning all kinds of things, like the importance of the resurrection and now ascension day. I have not thought of that, so thanks for teaching me.
Meeting God is fantastic, Awesome and wonderful. I talk to Him all the time and try to listen to what he has to say to me. I admit I like to talk
so I have to develop my listening skills. It is wonderful to know Him. He is always with me.

That's one thing I really like about partisipation in the Lutheran church, they go by the Christian calendar. There are a lot of different days in Christianity that are marked as special days for the rememberance and contimplatiopn of certain things-like asention day, Lent, even Christmas is not a one day celebration but rather is an entire season extending until Jan. 12 (?). The Lutherans though are the only group that I know of that have Reformation Day. But, I like seeing on the church calendar all these special moments and then taking the time to learn about the significance of that event. Being brought up SDA I did not learn much Christian history. If I recall correctly my Christian history was a lot of the study of the Isrealites who were the forrunners of Christianity, then Jesus and his deciples, we breifly touched on Martin Luther and how he was the start of true Christianity which ended with the SDA denomination. We got a lot of Millerite and EGW history. Zero Christian history. And, since being involved in a local Lutheran church already for quite a number of years I can say with certanity that at the Lutheran church we get a lot of Christian history. Oftentimes if I don't understand how come something is done this way or that way I ask and I learn how that procedure was implimated into worship with the early Church. I especially like focussing on the first 200 years or so of Christianity. It's so interesting to learn and to know why certain practices are still being practiced. |
