I know the SDAs believe in the year for a day principle in prophecy, but what do they say about the millinium since they obviously don't use the year for a day principle with that?

Hi U2
Although I don't know of a clear position on this, I have read SDA authors who propose that the year for day principle is to be used when the language is symbolic, and literal time when the language is not symbolic.
A good question when considering some of these time prophecies is: "So What?" Not that they are not important, but the issue for me as an SDA was one of fear. Once I knew for sure that I couldn't be perfect in the flesh and didn't have to face the investigative judment at some unknown time (perhaps) during my life, and that I was truly and fully saved by Jesus and not by reference to the law and my own character, my interest in time based prophecies began to fade. I am comforted that Jesus is with us and that He has given us His Spirit guaranteeing our salvation. We are complete in Him!

My mom told me if it says 'day' in a prophecy it means 'year' but if it says 'day' in a real past event such as creation the word 'day' mean a literal 24 hour day.

That's true, SusanóI learned something like that, also. It's all quite confusing, really...

Consider the story of Jonah. When Jonah speaks of 40 days in the near future of the city of Nineveh, was he talking about 40 years?
Sorry to contradict your Mum, but she had it wrong.
