I remember reading a quote somewhere, but now I can't find it. It went something like this...

"A single drop of grace lasts a thousand years."

I believe it was attributed to St. Augustine.

Does anyone know if this is correct?

While searching the Internet for this quote on a single drop of grace, I found this wonderful web site of a church in Saint Joseph, Missouri. Here's part of a sermon they had back in February...
_______________________________________

Turn to Ephesians, chapter 2. Grace existed before time. In fact, time existed before youíd have a stage to live out the gracious purpose that Godís appointed for your life. But Iím going to show you that grace is going to go on after time. Ephesians, chapter 2, verse 7, ìÖthat in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness,î that word is also sometimes translated goodness, ìÖthat in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.î All of the amazing grace that you have received so far ñ and it is amazing, just think about it ñ all of the amazing grace that you have received so far in life, is only just the beginning. In fact, what God needs now is, He needs all of eternity to show you how good He can be to you. God has oceans of grace. I want you to think of that ñ oceans of grace. Have you ever stood by an ocean? Maybe youíve flown across an ocean and realized that for hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, you just fly, and fly, and fly, and thereís nothing but water down beneath you. I tell you, God has oceans of grace; and every miracle, every healing, your salvation, every good thing that God has ever done in your life, came from one drop of grace. But God has oceans of grace. And God says, ìI want to show the recipients of My grace how kind, how good, how glorious, how excellent,î that word means all those things. ìI want to show them how good, how kind, how excellent I can be to them, and itís going to take Me forever to do it.î The purpose for eternity is so that God can show off His grace, and you are the recipient of it. God said, ìI want to fill up eternity by lavishing My grace upon a particular object,î and that particular object is you.

What a lovely quote. Thank you for sharing it. Just the daybrightener I needed this morning!

What joy to know that in God we have nothing to fear! We are not 'on probation' as convicted criminals being watched for the next slip up so we can be returned to prison. We are reborn, free in God's grace, adopted as His children, to live and grow and thrive. To grow up into the full stature of maturity in Christ. To experience God's "exceedingly, abundantly" in this life and in the life to come. To come to "comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." :-) I see I'm beginning to requote the scriptures used above rather than adding to them so I'll stop.

May each of us charge on ahead, knowing that God loves us, and delights when we run to Him!

Blessings,

Mary

Thanks for sharing your find, HW. After reading a quote like that it makes me think of Paul's question to the Judaizers - why in the world would we ever want to go back into slavery?

"It is for freedom that Christ set us free!!!" (Gal. 5:1).

Praise Him for His single drop of grace!

I believe that Augustine said this (I always forget, too). This is one of my favorite quotes, as well! I never forgot it, the first time I ever read it. He has so many 'drops', as well as his death and resurrection; they are countless, if we pay attention.
Thanks, Honestwitness

And thank you, Lord, for all of your graces, mercies, power and blessings--Yourself-- daily, to us~

Thank you, HonestWitness. What a wonderful quote! I am so thankful for Jesus who, as the song says, "is the Love of God".

Hello HonestWitness!

Thank you so much! Imagine, the Great God Of Heaven has an ocean of Grace for me!!!

I had an amazing experience yesterday that I'll share with you.

A guy over on CARM posted this question: "Why did God create Satan if He knew what Satan would do as far as bringing sin, heartache, sickness and death upon His creation?"

I saw this post early in the day. I have always hated the story of Lucifer. This is a question that I long-since decided I'd best not think about because if I thought about it too much I'd probably become an atheist. Then I'd give up the search entirely!

All day I was angry at this guy for bringing the question back up. Still I went back and back to check on the conversation. Various themes of the Great Controversary. I got angrier as the day went on.

Now, each morning I ask My God to pour out His favor on my soul. In the evening, as I drive home at 10:00, I usually review the day, looking for how He has chosen to fulfil my request.

Last night I was sort of blank. It was a fine day, but I couldn't find the blessing for my soul.

"In fact," I grumbled at Him, "why'd you bring up that question? That's all the 'bad old stuff'. You know that's part of what I didn't like about you in the first place. Can't you at least make me stop thinking about it?"

Well it was quiet in my car for a minute. Then I heard His voice (not exactly, it was in my head - very gentle). "Pegg, if I hadn't let things play out, you would never have existed."

"So? I know that! Why would it have mattered? I wouldn't have known the difference!"

"You're right, but I already knew about you. I already chose you, and I wasn't willing to let you go."

Can you imagine? At the foundation of the world, the Great God Of The Universe knew me! He liked me just the way I was, just the way I am, just the way I will become so much that He was not willing to change even one thing that would have made me different!

This goes for you too! It goes for every person! What an "Ocean Of Grace"!

It's An Amazing Search!

Pegg, thank you for sharing this experience. It made me feel like crying. What an awesome reality, that God knew us before creation and allowed everything to play out so as not to thwart even one of His plansóincluding us!

Wow.

Colleen
