Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

I was raised a vegetarian as many SDA's were. I am now paying the price. I am not forgetting the healthy things passed down to me, learning to enjoy complex carbs, fresh foods, water, lots of water. I am, however, paying the price for being a non-meat eater. I am allergic to soy, wheat, dairy and egg products (a new allergy) that kicks in my autoimmune condition to very high and disturbing levels when eaten. It also has caused a thyroid problem, heart problem and weight problem. The recommendation by my autoimmune specialist is protein at every meal with vegetables, small amounts of complex carbs and dietary fat... it all sounds so good until you are unable to take in any protein except in powdered form... the main part of my meal is now in powdered form. And no, beans and rice are not considered protein because they act as carbs in the body and dump insulin into the blood stream, a fat harboring hormone, by the way. I've tried and tried to eat chicken and turkey. I feel as if I'm going to vomit, and if I do get it down I can't eat the rest of my meal. I've prayed to the Lord about it but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Maybe it's not good to look back, but if I hadn't been abstaining from meat, I'd not be allergic to soy, milk and eggs as I'd have them less frequently (my doctor has confirmed this). I've not always been allergic to these things, just now that I'm dealing with insulin resistance and an autoimmune.

I THANK GOD I'M HAVING A CHANCE TO TEACH MY KIDS TO EAT 3 SQUARE MEALS A DAY, MISSING NONE. The 2 meal a day thing is VERY BAD ON ONES BODY.

The verse above has been ringing in my head since I've learned that being a carnivore would have been a HUGE ASSET to me.

Please pray for all SDA's still believing lies that affect their health.

And a book I recommend Dr. Schwarzbein's "The Schwarzbein Principle" if you have health problems left over from too many carbs in Adventism.

Lisa,
Since the doctor told me I was prediabetic(I was almost 180 pounds at 5 feet 1 in) in June my blood sugar has gone way down and I have lost a lot of weight. Now, I was not a strict vegetarian, but ate meat occasionally. I ate a lot of beans, brown rice, tortillas, as well as fruits and veggies. I would also play Russian roulette and eat sugar every so often and hope I did not shoot myself.
I am afraid I have hurt my son as I raised him vegetarian.
So my food includes 3 ounces of protein at each meal and that includes meat, veggies, fruits, milk and bread - one slice, or 1/2 cup rice/potatoes and similar type foods.
I have an eating disorder which anything with sugar sets off. Then I want to eat everything in sight. Since I was told I was prediabetic, GOD HAS BEEN SO GOOD TO ME. I cannot take any credit for the maintaining the food plan or the weight loss. It is GOD who has done it.
Read about Richard Tinker's experience with eating meat. I think it will help you.
With lots of love and prayers for you.

Lisa,

I would be interested if you could link to more info on that book.

I also would recommend the "South Beach Diet".

My really neat cousin and his wife came to visit us a week ago, and recommended a book to us, which I have found through Amazon.com and am discovering it to be rather delightful. I might add that this cousin and his wife left the SDA Church back in the 1980's when the shake up took place with Ford, etc.

Anyway, the book is titled "The Nuts Among the Berries" by Ronald M. Deutsch and was first published in 1961 with a subsequent publishing in 1967. It is currently out of print, but a few copies are available. There is also a sequel, "The New Nuts Among the Berries" published in 1977.

I am well into the first book, and it is most interesting with many chapters devoted to Ellen White, John Harvey Kellog and the Adventist Church. She was an absolute nut and jumped on the bandwagon with these fads that were proliferating in the era of the 1800's and on. Her books that gave instruction to adventists were totally adapted from other "health" advocates of that day.
Deutsch's book mentions that her visions or trances conveniently occured when she was in disagreement with someone; and invariably through the message given to her in that vision, her opponent was proven wrong.

Isn't it interesting that the "health reform" she so espoused in her (?) writings were copied from the health "nuts" of her day!

Well, I'll keep reading. I'm just getting to the part where she found John Harvey Kellog and the Battle Creek San. scenario! Should be fascinating from this point of view!

Hi Friends,

Diana, praise God for His mercy to you with your health.

Stan, this doctor has a web site www.schwarzbeinprinciple.com. I found her book in my local library. My doctor recommended her work. I love the way it explains the body's chemical reactions to different components (foods) introduced in the body. Tell me what you think... I know you know this stuff, it's your job:-) How is my dear friend Mary?... I need to call her. Get busy you know.

Lisa,

It looks good as that physician is a graduate of USC and a legitimate endocrinologist. It looks like it is patterned similarly to the South Beach Diet, but it seems to be geared more to women's needs. Keep me posted on how it works for you.

I see Mary in the ER all the time, and it is good to work around another former SDA. I will say hello for you.

Ardyj,
I got on Amazon and ordered the books too! I can't wait to read them. I was absolutely fascinated with reading the history of the Millerite movement on one of the websites. It was so eye-opening! I lived in my little sheltered world that said the SDA's had it all, and it is helpful to see it how it really was!

Stan,

Thank you for looking it over. So far so good.
