I have never been on a forum before but I wanted to attend this one.
I am not Adventist but I have spent the last three years studying the denomination and have many Adventist friends.
The one thing a former Adventist has in advantage and that is to witness to non-Christians. The former Adventist knows the Law of the Bible and has made the journey from the Law to the cross. The unsaved person, if he/she does not turn to Christ will be judged by that Law, the Adventist love this one text of scripture (Mat 5:18 KJV) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
But they fail to see that that is why Christ suffered and died. By and large the Christian church has failed to use the Law to witness to others, failed to tell the lost that they will be judged by that Law is already condemned unless he too, flees to the cross of Christ and there to be made free from the Law.
(Rom 8:2 KJV) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
The former Adventist has had the privilege of seeing it from both sides.

Welcome to FAF River. Please come back and tell of more of you dealings with SDAs, not to bad mouth them but what you have learned from them and about adventism.
God is truly awesome.

Welcome River! Thank you for reminding us of some of the benifits of being former SDAs. God does such a good job of redeeming us and using whatever is in our pasts for good.

Glad to see you here and looking forward to getting to know you better!

River - Welcome!

You are absolutely right about formers. I'm a lifelong Christian (married into an SDA family) and I've learned more about the New Covenant and Jesus's COMPLETE atonement from my friends here than I've ever learned! (Or maybe they helped me understand it so much better) Anyway, It's such a blessing to learn from these people.

Please share your story ~ consider yourself among friends!

BTW River, how did you come up with your screen name?

Mine is named after our big black standard poodle, who we call "Fonzie", and the river comes from our vacation home on the Colorado River.

So from one river to another, Welcome!

River,

welcome to the family. For many of us who have left Adventism, and joined the greater body of Christ, this is the one place where we have found people who understand where we have come from.

It is a safe place where heartache can be shared, or new joy can be understood.

You will find folks who have found freedom from oppression, and much concern for their loved ones.

You have summed us up pretty well.

We formers have, in the words of Joni Mitchell,

Looked at life from both sides now.

...okay you boomers, you can stop humming now.

Randy, thanks a lot for administering that Joni Mitchell "ear worm"!!

Maybe I can get rid of it with a few rounds of M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E...
