RandyG wrote something about how his kids see him so I thought I would start a thread to tell all of you the funny things are kids, young and older, have said about us.
When my son was going back to college in Richmond, VA, I asked him to stop by the hospital where I worked to have lunch with me and so I could show him off to my colleagues.
After lunch I was walking him back to the parking lot and we were talking about college. I mentioned something about my anatomy class at LLU. Without skipping a beat my son asked, "Wasn't Leonardo de Vinci state of the art anatomy when you were in College?" All I did was raise my right hand and say, "remember who has the check book". We bothed laughed.
God gave me a wonderful son. God is so awesome.

Diana, too funny!!

As we were driving around town yesterday my little 5yr old son asked me yesterday "Mama, what was I before I was a baby?" Not wanting to tell fairytales but at the same time get into too much detail I started to hem and haw. "Well, before you were a baby, you were, well... Have you ever seen a tadpole? You looked like that. You lived inside Daddy" I was really stuttering trying to find a simple answer. So as we drove past some stores, Ricky said "Mama,"

expecting more questions I answered "Yes Honey?"

Ricky replied "I really want a doughnut..."

Boy was I GLAD that subject changed!

Ha! Speaking of doughnuts, when Nathanael (now 19) was five, he spoke one day in the car our of his usual silent introspection and announced, "When I grow up, I'm going to have a Lamborghini and take my boy out for doughnuts."

Yeah!

Another one about my son. I have always driven a stick shift car and I especially like the 5 speed. One day we were driving into town and I was in the midst of a shift. Out of the blue my son said, "Mom, you have told me how babies are born, but you have not told me how the sperm and the egg get together." I just about stripped a gear as I thought about an anwer. I told him, "I am not answering you right away as I need to think, so I give you the right information." I thought and inwardly prayed. Then I told him. Nothing more was said and we went on about what we were doing.
My son was about 12 at the time.
God has been awesome and given me a wonderful son.

Children are the most precious gift that we have besides life, I think. My little six year old boy told me yesterday while driving what his favorite days of the week were. He named different ones, and said "Sunday, because I love to praise God". I told him that when he said things like that it made my heart sing. He luckily doesn't have a clue about the legalism that my other kids endured. But, they also turned out pretty wonderful too. Thank you Jesus for our precious children, and keep them in your care!

A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting with Jonathan in my Wednesday night class at church, as he had become quite anxious about leaving me. He started playing with the change in my purse and announced he had to go put some money in the offering, I said okay and took him to the children's area. After putting it in the plate, he got quite angry that I thought we should leave it there. We had to take it with us before he would leave. So much for that.... I guess giving is one thing, leaving it is another.

Since Diana mentioned my previous post about the clothes I wore in the 70s. I mentioned it to my kids last night. My ever insightful 20 year old son said that with those clothes I could have been an extra in an Austin Power's movie.

The first thing that came to my mind was....Yeah Baby..

And I've never even seen the movie!

Friday I had my 2-yr. old granddaughter as usual. I had a lot of errands to do as well as going to visit my mom (her great-grandma). We made a big loop - it's all country driving. We looked for cows and horses, sang songs over and over and over and over, and talked about the stars and moon, and the clouds and rain. Generally anything to keep her entertained and happy. Plus I have great fun with it all, too. But I was feeling kind of guilty that we had spent so much time in the car, because we usually stop at the park while we are out, which we didn't do because it was raining.

When we got home and I was getting her out of her car seat, she said "thanks, Nana - that was FUN!" WOW - my heart just melted!

Also, one time when my husband I were taking Sundis somewhere in the car, he said something cross to me and I replied in annoyance, "I'm not talking about this right now". He shut up and that was all that was said. When we got home she said to her Mom, " Nana and Papa fought in the car". I was stunned that she had picked up on that so quickly! And we rarely fight, she usually sees us as pretty loving to each other. Only one quick exchange of words, but she KNEW that they were "angry" words. It sure makes one aware of how each action is being recorded and what a great influence we have on our kids, and grandkids!

She keeps me attentive to my actions! But it is such a joy to have the oppportunity to be part of her life!

One more - about my son-in-law. When he was dating my daughter, we had a family dinner - one of the first he had come to. During the conversation he said to me "In the olden days did you..."! I must have looked shocked, because I certainly wasn't alive during the "olden days" ! But of course to him I was, and I had to laugh at our perspectives. We both laughed about it later!

It also surprises me when he describes someone as an old person, and then I realize he is talking about someone MY age. But he makes it OK because he says he doesn't think of me as that old. He's such a good son-in-law!
