I have been wanting to write this down for a long time now and decided now is the time. After reading the NT and learning about the sabbath rest I got to thinking about creation week and Adam and Eve. After each day God said there was an evening and a morning after each day. But he did not say that about the 7 day. Adam and Eve had just been created and had no reason to rest. God had created the world and rested from his work. My thinking tells me this is what God wanted for Adam and Eve from the beginning. He wanted a daily rest in Him. After Joshua took the COI into Caanan, the Bible says they did not enter His rest because of their disobedience. The COI never entered that rest. Jesus came to this earth to restore that rest He originally planned for his people. As you see I do not have Bible texts as there is nothing I can find for Adam and Eve.
What Adam and Eve passed on to their children is not written. Because of Abraham we know he know something about God. So did Noah and all those between creation and Abraham. Abraham taught his children about God. This is evident by what the Bible tells us of the descendents of Abraham. These are just my thoughts. I am rambling as I want to include all my thoughts on this. I thought I would run them by you and see what you have to say.
God is always awesome.

I agree Diana. God never instituted the weekly Sabbath until Sinai in Exodus 16 with regard to the manna. The Sabbath is a perfect picture also of our Bread (the true manna) of Life, and we celebrate the Lord's supper in Remembrance of Him, and not to a specific day.

I am appreciating more every day my Sabbath rest in Christ.

In His Grace,

Stan

Diana,
My understanding of ìthe restî goes like this, God rested on the seventh day signified completion and satisfaction, not because he was ìPlumb tuckered outî.
The men of old labored but did not find rest because sin had come into the world. Christ death again signified completion when he said ìIt is finishedî in him we once again find rest and completion.
Sabbath keeping, or other self works or un-repentance for that matter can keep us laboring but finding no rest. Just as God delivered the Jews from bondage in Egypt, so he delivered me.
I know this may sound disjointed to you but I thought I would toss it to you.
By the way I just wrote a new song today it is called ìLord let me seeî
Played on my guitar it sounds like a mixture of Willie Nelson and Tom T. Hall. Well, I guess you could expect that from a southerner.
Blessings

Diana, I agree. The lack of "evening and morning" connected to the first Sabbath is significant. It was an undending rest into which God placed Adam and Eve through no merit of their own.

The observance of the Sabbath every seventh day did not happen until the COI were in the Sinai wilderness.

Hey River, I like Willy Nelson and I play at the guitar, so if you come to the reunion you can play it for us. And I am a southerner also, Southern California, that is!!!:-)

Hi Diana,

I knew the Sabbath was a "shadow" of Christ, but I was surprised one day when that "shadow" reached even into the creation story...

We know that the first 7th day had no "end", but it also doesn't say it had a beginning. The actual literal existence of it isn't quite the point -- rather the way it was written down is more of the point. I remembered something else--rather, Someone else--who has "no beginning" and "no end"... the Son of God.

Just like the first "Sabbath day" had no evening or morning, the Son of God has no beginning or end.

When I realized this, I felt like, "Hey! Can God do that?!" Can He have put a shadow of His Son right there even in the creation story before sin?

In answer to that, I believe He referred me to John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word..." John's gospel tells the creation story, saying, "Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it". The Genesis story has the same event. But in John there is a reality, a Spiritual reality of Christ being the Light and us being the dark world.

What I learned was that both events were true, however God did indeed set some "shadows" of His Son in the creation story. One was Light, another was the Word ("God spoke"), and another was the 7th day which was without beginning and end.

Hope that makes interesting sense.

Blessings!

That is the kind of sabbath rest God wants us to have with Him-no ending. I like that. For me it had a beginning in Jan 2004. In Jan 2007 I will coming up to my 3rd anniversary as a Christian. Hallelujah!!! Praise God and Rejoice with me. God picked my up and brought me to Himself. I am so glad He is so awesome.

Ramone, great insights. God DID put shadows of Jesus into creation!
