I found this in a thread on RS. The thread was started by Pastor O'Ffill because of an email that he recieved from a forum member asking that his membership be dropped because many posters were rigid and legalistic (this is absolutely true by the way. You don't need to be told that).

I found this comment in one response:

"For a person who is not Adventist to take part in the discussions would mean that they probably will question the basic beliefs of the church, Pastor. If not, they will at least come from a different point of view that is based in non-Adventist thinking. That, of course would mean that they must remain silent on that which they disagree with (for fear of being come down upon) like the sanctuary message or the sabbath, or speak only that which they do agree with the atoning death of Christ, making the discussion void of any real substance."

How do you like the last comment? "...speak only that which they do agree with the atoning death of Christ, making the discussion void of any real substance"

This is one of the big reasons I had to quit attending the SDA church. Why do they seem to have such a disregard for the primary message of the New Testament?

My wife begs me not to hang out on threads like that because I get aggravated...

Oh, the horrors -- having to only speak about the atoning death of Christ! Imagine that! I can't believe that in this writer's mind, speaking about the atoning death of Christ is now a subject labeled as "void of any real substance"!

Talk about missing the point...

Who would rather talk about the sanctuary message or sabbath rather than Jesus?! Although, it is easier to talk about something that you know a lot about. Interesting.

So, Christ's sacrifice is nothing and the real "substance" is stuff like the Sabbath??! That's totally opposite of what Colossians 2:16-17 says. Adventism always gets it backwards.

Christians are totally unaware of the disdain Adventists have for the blood sacrifice of Jesus...

Aloha everyone!

Just a heads up that this is my first post!!! First one! Woohoo! Sorry, just getting a little excited over the fact of finally joining the discussion.

Ok, I agree with you guys on this topic. I was sitting at lunch with my mother after she joined me for sunday service at the church that I attend. We were discussing how she really enjoyed coming to Northwoods (Northwoods Community Church the church I attend) and how she was really getting tired of how "dead" her church (Richland Bridge SDA)was getting. I told her that she should just switch to Northwoods as she is not being fed at Richland like she is at Northwoods. After all she has been going to Northwoods as long as I have for about 2years steady now. I had been going off and on for about three years before that. She started to hint that it would be a good thing. I told her where else can you go that teaches MORE about Jesus and who He is then at Northwoods? She agreed and said she would love to help in the childrens department (she's a recovering Sabbath School teacher) at Northwoods.
So we start eating and then she stops and says, "but I could never give up the Sabbath." This of course I was expecting and then told her what I had learned about the sabbath. She about freaked and said, "Have you been hanging out on those whacko websites like your grandfather did?"
I just smiled and said that I wasn't. I told her that I just actually READ the Bible. I told her that it is amazing how different the Bible reads if you don't look at it from SDA view points! She looked at me puzzled. She then brought up the usual arguments that Jesus kept the sabbath and you guys know the rest of the typical SDA talking points. I didnt go into much discussion about it anymore, but did say that spending too much time on the sabbath and not preaching the gospel was wrong. She agreed and then went on to defend the sabbath some more!?
So I agree with you Jeremy Adventist spend way to much time praising the Sabbath and clearly not spending enough praising the One that the sabbath was pointing to.
Guys I am looking forward to spending more time on this forum and sharing my story and everything. First I need to figure out how to make a new post on the main discussion board so I can share that story. Anyone?

Mahalo,
Isaiah

Isaiah, welcome, great to see you here, I pray for your mom, oh God almighty, I pray for Isaiahs mother, reveal the truth about the sabbath to her, let her be able to read the Bible for what it says about the sabbath, I pray that you will remove each and every lie of SDA and lead her to know you as you are more and more each day, if she hasn't been born again, I pray that she will, if she isn't saved from your wrath I pray that she will be, I pray for your blessing upon her life, that you will live in her and guide her each step of the way. Amen

Hi Ikilgore,
Welcome to FAF. You are in a good place. When you are ready, tell us more about your journey with JESUS. He is always so awesome.
I will pray for your Mother.
My son learned about Jesus before I did, so you will not be the first son to point the way out of adventism to their mother.

Insearchof,
That is typical of SDA. A number of us wrote on RS a couple of years ago. We were banned because we spoke against EGW. Anything goes when it comes to the Bible and Jesus though.
Jesus deserves better than that because He is so awesome.

I guess we don't know the whole story behind the email, but I will say this: Richard Offill's comments thru the thread were well said (hey, that rhymed!). I've my theological differences with him over the years even while a good SDA, but he was and is a kind person.

I'm so glad the spirit on this forum is so pleasant.

Cforrester,
I will agree from what I read on R. Offill's web site that he sounds like a kind person. He was so concerned when his grandson left the SDA church. I forget who told us about it. A number of us went to his web site to defend/encourage the grandson and found he could defend himself.
I am sure Pastor Offill is sincere in what he believes.

Aloha Pheeki!

My grandfather was not liberated. He went the OTHER way! You see there are websites like this one (formeradventist) and then are the ones that are the opposite. He used to be this disgruntled Adventist with the church in Sheridan, Oregon so he went and joined some "Historic Adventist" church. Funny thing is that it wasn't part of the official church and they didnt want to have anything to do with it. That's great, but here is the best part: they had to go to the ABC bookstore to buy the EGW propaganda!!! He doesnt belong to any type of Adventist church now as his went out of business and he just meets with friends in his house. I find it interesting that thier church didnt grow because you can't get normal people to join a Historic Adventist church. The only way Historic Adventist church's grow is by taking the disgruntled SDA's out of the normal SDA church. I use "normal" in the lightest of ways!!!LOL!

You are very correct. Historic SDA's are some of the most angst ridden unhappy people I have ever met!

So you are alone in your exodus? So was I. Can't wait to hear the rest of your story.
