It is with a heavy heart and with tears streaming down my face, that Marti and I are sending out this message. We are up in the high sierras getting some R and R with snow surrounding us with great beauty.

But our hearts are heavy today, as our dog caretaker called me on my cell phone to inform us that our very healthy big black standard poodle only seven years old passed away unexpectedly in his sleep last night. This is the dog called Riverfonz and Fonzie for short.

This is especially hard on us as we don't have other children of our own, and we both spoiled him to death. Also, with Marti's career ending stroke two years ago, he has been her constant companion since I work so much.

However, Marti and I prayed this prayer together today just before we ate lunch:

Father, we thank you for allowing us to have this wonderful dog for the seven years you have given him to us. We trust you Lord also with regard to the untimeliness of his death, as he may have suffered. We praise you and thank you, in Jesus name Amen

We are sure that God will provide us with another fine dog in the near future, but pray that we will be comforted in our time of mourning.

I know others on here have recently lost dogs, and we all know how it feels. These animals are God's special gifts of common grace to all mankind.

Dear Stan and Marti,

I am so sorry about the loss of your Riverfonz! It truly is heartbreaking to lose a wonderful companion and member of your family.

I sit here typing as my 6 year old Miniature Schnauzer naps at my side. I know how much she adds to my life, and I can understand how much Fonzie added to yours.

God takes notice of your mourning, as even a sparrow does not fall without His knowledge. I can't imagine to understand the why of what's happened, but I do know that God is able to walk with you through this time.

I pray you will find another companion in God's perfect timing and you are so right in that pets are God's special gift of common grace!

Warmly,
Susan

Stan, I'm so sorry about Fonzie. I know how much you loved him. It's so hard to lose a loved one, especially when it just happens suddenly.

Gosh, when I was younger and I lost the toy poodle I grew up with, I couldn't bear to look at the doggie door we had. I must have cried for weeks!

I mourn with you and Marti. God bless you both ~

Dear Stan and Marti,
I am so sorry to hear about Riverfonz and his untimely death. I know how a pet can become a part of the family and it is difficult when the pet dies.
I prayed for you before I wrote this that God hold you in his awesome arms as you mourn your wonderful dog.

Stan and Marti,

My heart aches for you. You had mentioned your special friend Riverfonz to me once and I think you mentioned that he may have been in a photo with you and Marti in an earlier issue of Proclamation.

Please know that you are loved by friends who also share your grief.

Stan, I'm so sorry to hear about Fonzie. I've lost two dogs to accidents and it's heartbreaking. Honestly, the best cure is a new puppy.

And Susans, I have a miniature Schnauzer also! Great little dogs and barring accidents, they can live up to 20. Mine is 9 and rockets around the house like a puppy. I can't imagine life without a dog around....

Stan & Marti,

I'm sorry to hear about Fonzie. You have our sympathy & prayers in this time. God made a special friend for you and I'm so thankful that He gave you such unconditional love from Fonzie all these years. He shows His glory & His loving nature through them, and none are forgotten by Him. Bless you both as you draw close to Him and to each other in this time of grief.

In His love,

It probably doesn't seem like it now, but we do have the promise of Psalm 30:5 Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.
