Aloha everyone!

As I said in my leaving adventism post me and my mother go to lunch after Sunday service at Northwoods church. Each Sunday after I get back I will put up on this thread what we talked about. I would love it if you guys could give some insight into what we talked about and how I could convey that to her the next time I see her. We only see each other on Sunday's as she works days and I work evenings. Saturdays are a lost cause as she goes to church in the morning at the SDA church and then comes home takes a nap and then goes to Northwoods saturday night with my dad. I know, it doesn't really make sense going twice, but she does. I think its because she feels better about knowing she is going on the Sabbath to Northwoods. But the dirty little secret about the winter here in Illinois is that if you follow the Sabbath as they did in the OT then it is already over at 4:20 in the afternoon!!! Sun goes down here about 4:20 or so during the winter. So it is kinda pointless to go on the "Sabbath" as it is already over! Well, it would be if you go and look at it from the OT perspective. Oh well... I

Isaiah,

It really is a dirty little secret :-). I'll tell you though, when I was transitioning out of Adventism back into Christianity, Sabbath was the last thing I gave up. The huge Calvary Chapel I attended for 2 years had services on Saturday night as well as 2 services on Sunday mornings. All but one time I went on Saturday night. The one time I went on Sunday morning it was so different.

The reason I liked going better on Saturday nights, besides the fact that I was so used to church on Saturday, is that there was a 30 minute praise and worship before the almost hour and a half service, and a 30 minute praise and worship time afterwards, "afterglow" if you will. On Sunday mornings, the services were so close together that was not possible. I loved the time of music and worship after services especially.

It may not make sense to your mom either about going on Saturday night, but it just might. Is she going on Saturday morning to the SDA church, and then Saturday night with your dad to Northwoods, and then Sunday morning again with you? If so, she may do that to be with your father on Saturday nights since he (so far if I remember correctly) has refused to go on Sundays. But even if she is going on Saturday nights only, it may be she is more comfortable and not just worrying about Sabbath. Or it may be that she is thinking about it like a vesper service.

Sounds like your mom is a wonderful woman. I look forward to hearing about your visits with her. I
have a 30 year old son, and it makes me smile to see the relationship you have with your mom.

I will continue to pray for you all.

Blessings,
Susan
