Greetings all!

I am honored to be able to post after lurking on FAF for the past few months. I'm not quite sure how I found you, I think I maybe googled something adventist and up you came. I will admit I am a little nervous since it seems all other members are former sda...and I am currently still an sda member (although we are transitioning to a newer, more *progressive* sda church at this time) ...BUT...I feel it's only physical...spiritually I have not been adventist for a long time. It's funny as I think back, my dad, who passed away a few years ago, was an eccentric funny 'ol guy, said something negative about adventists to me as I was fresh back from a student missionary year...I told him I took offense as I was an *adventist*. He laughed and said I was not....I was, rather, a *christian* in an adventist church. Huh? It made no sense then, and I chalked the statement up to just crazy ol' dad spoutin' off again. Yet, the statement stuck and 14 years later...huh...he was right.

I don't have the time to go into a long sda history as I have two small children at home and I can barely keep up with email without being interrupted, let alone type out everything I'd love to share with you guys. Hopefully I can eek out bits and pieces through different topics and posts.
My kids are a 3yo boy (can we say INTERRUPTIONS again?) and a 5 yo soon-to-be 6yo girl. My wonderful husband and I have been married for 10 years. We have attended the same sda church for 7 years (the church of my hubby's childhood)..he has taught a verse-by-verse sabbath school until recently and I have taught cradle roll and kindy ss for the last 6years. While we love our friends at out hometown church, it is just spiritually dead. We got nothing from the worship service, and there is a definite division between the historical members and progressive members. Probably not unlike many sda churches today.

I do not feel Ellen White is a prophet although I used to say she was *inspired*. At least that got me out of heated arguments. LOL I was baptized at 16 and could NEVER read her books. I just HATED her style of writing. Yet I went thru periods of time whrn I felt so guilty...I mean if she was *inspired* why was not I inspired by her books? At least I never got so sucked in I felt I needed her books...I KNEW the Bible was enough. I do remember meeting some fellow student at LLU at some meeting and she was tearing up after just finishing up D of A for the upteenth time...I thought what's wrong with ME? I am sooo not touched or inspired by her words!

After reading many posts on here as well as info on other sites, I bit the bullet and bought Dale Ratzlaff's Sabbath in Christ. Now, the reason I started with that was not because I questioned the sabbath ( I hadn't although I also never condemned anyone for not choosing the sabbath) but it was such an innocent title! haha I could leave it around the house and hubby and other sda relatives would just assume it was some sabbath book. haha. After several weeks I finally finished it (those kids again) and mentioned it to hubby. I for the first time questioned the idea of the sabbath. I have never been taught the the weekly sabbath is also a shadow of Christ...although Col 2:16 is perfectly clear on that , IMHO. Hubby has studied deeply and extensively and has Bachiocchi's book "Sabbath Under Crossfire" which is basically a debate over Ratzlaff's view and NCT as a whole. I'm trying to read it now so as to get the argument to Ratzlaff's views, but I find it more difficult, and old Sam seems to get his panties in a wad over issues quite a bit. Anyway, what was I saying about a long post? My prayer is now that Hubby will start searching as I have, he does have the same view of EGW as I do, but holds onto other doctrines strongly and feels he can back them up with scripture (that he knows very well)

We have some friends who have left the sda church for a nct church, also a step SIL/BIL, and a favorite cousin of hubby who was a pastor/theology professor at Union College for years. Hubby had an interesting conversation wiht him at a family reunion 2 years ago (before he left sda and his UC position) but, alas, another story for another time, two hungry kids are gettin restless!

God Bless!
Tami :-)

Dear Tami,

I'm so glad you're here! You will find a lot of support, prayer, understanding, and insight. Thanks for sharing your experience.

God is faithful; when we desire to know Him and the truth, He reveals it in His time and in His way. Praise God for bringing Dale's book to you at the right time!

I will be praying for you and also for your husband.

Welcome, Tami!

I can understand your nervousness about being here, and I admire your courage. We really are a nice group of people. Not all here are former SDA's. There are those who never have been, are married or involved with Adventists, and others who come for information, support, and fellowship.

We're glad you are here! Everyone is on their journey with Christ at different stages, but the thing that binds us together is our love for the Saviour.

Thanks for sharing some of your story. Feel free to post as you have time. I pray for you and your husband as you begin to study out your beliefs.

Blessings,
Susan

Welcome Tami!

Since you've been reading for awhile you may 'know' a few of us already but I look forward to getting to know you better!

Sounds like you have two precious handfuls in your kids. I can understand the interruptions, though mine are a bit older than yours, a 6 year old boy, an 8 year old girl, and a 10 year old boy. They sure can keep us running can't they!

Post when you can and read when you can, and I'll be praying with you that your hubby will be open to considering what you've found!

Blessings,

Mary

Welcome to FAF Tami and your two kids. You will find that you are not the only SDA here. They are like you and want to know more about the Bible and what the Bible really teaches. At least that is how I understand you.
You are in a safe place here. When the kids are not interrupting you, tell us more of your journey with Jesus Christ.
He is always awesome.

Welcome Tami!
I remember how nervous I was when I posted the first time after reading for several months. Many of us here can understand that very well :-)

While you may be wondering and nervous, just hang on to Jesus with all your strength. He is worth every step on this journey and He loves you and your family and has an incredible plan for you.

A warm welcome from me to you Tami :-)

Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ my awesome God, I thank you for Tami, I thank you that you are working in her life and that you are leading her and revealing more of yourself (The truth) to her. Please comfort her and lead her in her relations with SDA people and former SDA people and Christians in general, amen.
