My best friend thinks Doug Batchelor is the best preacher around, and she watches him all the time, especially the Sabbath School lessons. He gives me the creeps.

I guess what brought that on was that one of my Adventist friends talked me into installing A Sat. System, he told me I would have four religious channels for free, so I paid him 200.00 for the system and installed it and Guess whut? 4 channels of Doug Bachelor and Adventism.

What does it take to make a sucker? River and one Adventist.
I think I'll take the system apart and pull all the good diodes and transisters, I will get 2.00 worth of diodes for only 200.00. whoopeeee!!!

River, was that one of those 3ABN dishes? Or a SafeTV? I know Sky Angel cancelled 3abn...there is such controversy over most everything about 3abn these days. If half of what's being said is true, it is a tragedy.

River, sounds like you were being evangelized! You just have to know what to look for.

River,
Are you more knowledgable now about how you are being evangelized??? That is definitely what your SDA friends are doing.
We will keep praying for them. Also will keep praying for you as you interact with them.

River, as I understand it, Doug Bachelor was granted an honorary degree of ministry, not earned the old fashioned way. He was mentored by Joe Crews (does anyone remember him)? DB is definitely the poster boy for the SDA General Conference. He works undercover by not announcing up front what church he belongs to. His evengelism/proselytizing message serves as a kind of adhesive to cement (enslave) lifelong, hardcore SDA's to their pews. After all, they are losing members, and that means loss of money.
Please excuse my jaded attitude, but I have seen this man take almost demonic power over sincere people, including some in my family. Let me be clear, I hate DB/s message and methods for what it does to the gospel and those who seek it.

Me too, Steve! He speaks so fast and in circles, and then keeps saying "isn't that right?" to cement those beliefs in.

Yes, he was mentored by Joe Crews to take over Amazing Facts eventually. Doug likes to promote his testimony of being a millionaire's kid who lived in a cave, found a bible and came to all the SDA doctrines without any other influence. I believe that leads many Adventists to follow his teachings because of his being "taught" by God Himself.

Susan,
Now that you've mentioned the cave, I think he's still in it! I've been in that cave myself (figuratively), and it's dark and lonely in there. I invite all who are visiting or dwelling in this cave of darkness to come out into the light of the freedom and honesty of the gospel.

I've been uncomfortable with DB as well. I've been to his church in the past (I'm in the Sacramento area) You would be surprised at how many sda's really don't care for him...well, at least ones I know (and of course some love him...) but one SIL of mine has a good saying..."NO one loves Doug Bachelor as much as Doug Bachelor loves Doug Bachelor" haha. Her MIL (she's a step-SIL, so it gets confusing) works for Arrogant Facts, er, I mean Amzing Facts. I really lost any respect for the organization a few years ago when they did a series at my church. ALL the evangelists are the same....used car salesmen. They have that slick persona I just can't stand. They teach them to be that way! They have their little division called AFCOE...their college of evangelism where anyone attends for several weeks or months and then is certified an evangelist. They baptized a bunch of the AFCOE students at the end of our series to make the Baptism # look large. It was weird. We thought we were getting 40 new church members and then they all went their seperate ways to wherever they came from. Never did understand it.

And while our churhc actually held their series at the church (although the flyers called it an "auditorim on the map, no sda) they sent out these awful manipulative letters to all members, demanding how we needed to be there...yes, even us that had infants needed to be there from 7-9pm every night....detailing where we should sit and what we should say to anyone new. Basically giving us some of their sales tactics. Their meetings just raise the hair on my neck.

I think Doug is much more popular with the hysteric...oops, sorry, historic, conservative Adventists than he would be with the more liberal Californian Adventists, imo.

You are exactly right about being a used car salesman! lol (please no offense to any who might be) but he does fit that stereotype of the slick salesman.

My old church does that too, about manipulating members to attend all the meetings so it appears to people coming there there is much more interest than actual, and while I'm not sure that church does, I know of churches who actually tell the members not to divulge that they are members, at least not in the beginning. One more example of deception. I do know that my old church made people feel guilty if they did not come.

Boy, Did I hit a sore spot and all I was trying to do was pull to your funny bone, I was in my comic mode, the way I sometimes deal with things when I don't want to face them, I remember his cave testimony, number one, its doesn't say much for a sound mind to go crawl in a cave, of course unless you have a pretty bad ex wife/husband then I might recommend it although the cure might be just as bad.
one is sure to come out loonier than when he went in.

Back in my sailing days a fellow took a trip around the world alone in a 30 Ft. Boat and when he got back to Santa Barbra he said he had the answer to the worlds problems, in his own words "Plant a tree". We aren't built for extended loneness.
Yes, I realize that I have been evangelized but there is things about Adventism that I have refused to face head on but I think that situation will probably come to a head in the near future, the Lord allows me my time of sticking my head in the sand with my butt (Acceptable word?)up in the air, but I have a feeling that is about to change.
I don't know why or how but I feel as if I am on the verge of knowing something. Something deep and penetrating. If not, the sand is warm and comfortable.

River,
Things could be looking up for you and your skyward exposure. Be careful or you could pull your head up out of the sand and find the number 143,999 tattooed on your backside by one of them lions, tigers and bears end-times prophecying used car people - whew, you may just barely make it.

I used to really like Doug B. Even after I left the SDA church I had a hard time listening to him because he would confuse me about some things. Years later I have quite a different perspective. I totally believe he is either deceptive or ignorant and comes across as very cocky.

I still remember the day when I was watching 3ABN a few years after I left the SDA church. I was watching out of curiosity. It is very interesting to watch the seminars after you no longer believe what they teach. I was shocked to see partial verses quoted and totally taken out of context. I hadn't realized that it was so obvious. I think Doug B should be put on pause and the watchere should check out every scriptural reference in its context before pushing the play button again.

BTW, I was told by a liberal/evangelical SDA pastor that I was in danger of being lost when I left the SDA church.

Susans, your friends needs to speak to me. I worked as a Security Officer at the GC for over 6 years, and I know all sorts of dirty little secrets about Doug B and the rest of the "saints" there. Because of my exposure to them I started my search of the Bible which eventually led to me leaving that church.

91 Steps, it would not do any good whatsoever. My friends have relatives that work at the CG, parents who were pastors, in-laws who are huge donors to AU, relatives who are evangelists, and multi-generational SDA roots.

She feels that the church is not perfect, but it's God's true church and after all you must stay in it till the end. She once told me even if they disfellowshipped her she would be standing outside to hear anyway. All I can do is pray.

Yeppers, I think your right Susan, it wouldn't do any good.
Once people have put their stamp of approval on this Guy he becomes the greatest thing since Carters Little Liver pills.
As U2 said, he is either deceptive or ignorant and comes across as very cocky.
and as u2 also said Quote "I was shocked to see partial verses quoted and totally taken out of context."
He seems to do that about one a minute doesn't he u2?
He talks very fast and slick and the people look around and says to themselves, well old brother Bob approves him after all. You talk about herd instinct.
