Hey River,
Your thread of "three days", reminded me to post about my weekend coming up.

I leave tomorrow to go to a retreat of sorts called Tres Dias. I wonder if anyone here has ever gone? I hear great things about it, and surprisingly, it was an Adventist who first mentioned it to me.

The whole thing is rather mysterious, no one will tell me what to expect, and you have to be invited and sponsored to go. That made me a bit nervous, but I trust the people that suggested it to me. To be sure, I am praying for wisdom and discernment. I actually have peace and some excitement about it today.

I love the freedom to taste and see what it out there in the Christian Community of Believers at large.

I ask your prayers for me this weekend, and also for my son while I am gone. I understand I will have no communication with the outside world (No cell phones or internet!)

River, the three day thread has me thinking. I like the analogy, the idea that this three day experience may give me the benefit of futher crucifying self, and resurrecting with Christ.

Sounds like Emmaus Walk stuff... have to be invited and sponsored, no communication with the outside world, mysterious in that no one is allowed to say much about it to those who haven't been.

In fact, I googled it on the internet and found a description of the weekend:
http://www.tresdias.org/f/w.htm

Tres Dias is the interdenominational version of the Cursillo movement the Catholics began, the Methodists do Emmaus Walk, and I forget the name of the Lutheran one. They're all practially identical, as far as I can tell. I know many SDA's who are regularly involved in Emmaus Walk including being leaders and presenters to the participants.

Yes, pray for wisdom and discernment. We do have freedom to check things out and the promise of the Holy Spirit to guide us. I've always been suspicious of "manufactured experiences". Plus, I've seen where Emmaus Walk (which may or may not be exactly like Tres Dias) suggests as reading material for those who have been through Emmaus Walk, Thomas Merton. I realize plenty of Christians think he's wonderful, but it's a known fact that he was into Eastern mysticism practices that he tried to "Christianize".

Take your cell phone anyway, AND your personal Bible.

I just tried the link I posted, and it doesn't take you directly to the page I was referring to. Once you click the link, click on "More Information", then click on "The Essentials" which is right under the heading "Resource Material for Information."

Take yer 4x4 and if it turns sour you can put it in first gear and letter rip.

Lord please Guide Lori as she seeks you and take care of the boy.Amen

Good idea re the phone Steve. And of course I will take my bible. I am quite a skeptic, but the fruit of those who have attended is good, and I know them well. One used to work for me.

I told a friend of some of the doubts and cautions received and she said "You are strong enough in the Lord to test things". That was a real blessing to me, a nice confirmation.

I meant to ask you all to pray re the food stuff. When they asked if I had any special food request I said no. For the first time ever I didnt ask for a vegetarian diet! I have been a complete vegetarian my entire life, until a couple of months ago. I have been praying, and praying, and taking a few bites of meat at my weekly church cell group each Sunday. I have to really pray, but so far I have been able to eat what is set in front of me with thanksgiving. The brainwashing for me was severe re food. I wont gross you all out with what I always heard, but of course, some of you know!

So I may need that cell phone in case I need to order in some Taco Bell!! :-)

Leigh Anne,
The "blessing" we sang before each meal was sung to the tune of Eidelweiss(sp). So I was either praying for you, or laughing to myself, each time they sang the song--two times each meal, before and after. I kept seeing your forum picture in my head! :-). Know that you have were prayed for regularly for three days!

River, God is so cool to confirm things. Here I was anxious before I went, and I will copy something from up above,

"River, the three day thread has me thinking. I like the analogy, the idea that this three day experience may give me the benefit of futher crucifying self, and resurrecting with Christ."

As it turns out, each weekend has a theme, which is not announced till you get there, and the theme of this weekend was refreshed and Resurrected!

I just love how God confirms things for me. At a pivotal point in the weekend, A seven year old song was played, (and I later learned was added to the program at the last minute), "If You want me too" By Ginny Owens. Those of you who know my story know that is THE SONG that God used to set me on my course out of adventism!

I had difficulty while there with the very controlling structure, was bored at times, didn't like the lack of free time or privacy, the enforced silence and the highly structured programs and responsive reading. Maybe those of you who like order and structure and "high" services like Episcopal or Lutheren, might enjoy it more.

Having said that, I prayed to let go of my need to control throughout the weekend, and was deeply blessed. I did have a "resurrection" type experience, which is still unfolding. I was ddeply moved by the love of all those present to serve, and the deep commitment to Christ that was evident. The presence of the Holy Spirit was evident.

I walked away with a much deeper understanding of grace, and the experience of deeper forgiveness of others in my past.

Yes, I would recommended this to certain others, and there was nothing at all weird, new age, or "cultish" going on. It was all about Jesus.

And Raven, at least at this one, no books were recommended. A couple of concordances were placed up front at one point, but that was all.

Thanks so much for your prayers. You all are great to cover me, as I "taste and see" in new found freedom.

Thanks for the update, Lori - sounds like it went well enough. The recommended books I was talking about are a part of "The Fourth Day" that these type of events usually have. That is their term for ongoing meetings to stay connected with others who have attended. I only know some of the books on the Emmaus Walk recommended reading list that I find highly questionable, but maybe Tres Dias is different.

Lori, thank you for the report. I was praying for you especially re: this experience this weekend. Praise God for revealing Himself to you in new ways.
