Can anyone in the christian world accept the sanctuary doctrine. I dodn't understand how SDA's can convert people to believing this fundamental belief. When active in Norridgewock Maine SDA church, [my husband is Adventist I agreed to give the chuch a try and got sucked in and became active in the church and society, almost was baptized but had doubts]I felt they had a logical answer for everything sabbath, health reform,EGW,lifestyle, anyway what kept me from being baptized was, I just could'nt accept the sanctuary docterine, investigative judgement it gave me the creeps just thinking about it, let alone accepting it! How were you all converted to believe in the sanctuary docterine?

I never did believe in it. I went to Academy and it was taught each year with all the charts. It never made sense to me, many of the students asked questions and I don't think they believed in it either. When I was baptized at the age of 10 I was asked if I believed in Ellen White and I said no. They baptized me anyway because in their words "I was young and as I grew in maturity I would learn to accept her teachings". Well they were wrong. I never did accept her teachings and I ended up leaving the church at the age of 18 and praise the Lord became a born-again Christian. In talking with a number of people who are still in the SDA church it seems that many do not believe the Investigative Judgement and even have concerns with Ellen White but it is the Sabbath that keeps them there.

How can anyone be converted to believe the sanctuary doctrine? Speaking from my experience, it is easy.

I was a prime target for SDA tom-foolary because I came from a background with little or no Bible knowledge.

If people are ignorant of scripture, lack sound bible teachings or have gnostical pride(saved by knowledge), it is easy to deceive them.

During a series of SDA evangelistic meetings I attended back in the Caribbean, in 1973, the preacher sounded like a theological giant.

He appeared "competent and knowledgeable" about the Bible,to me and many other biblically ignorant people. He was extremely charismatic and we, about 485 people, fell for everything. At the time, I believed I gave my life to Christ even though I joined the church.

The follow-up for new converts to the church, was a thorough indoctrination progam. I was a "sealed" Adventist.

A few years later, when things were beginning to look disjointed and seemed senseless to me, I dug in deeper, studying the history and doctrines of the church to prove myself. The veil covered me tighter and I was rooted in cognitive dissonance.

For many years, the SDA church boasted that the success and furor they were having, were proof the SDA church was God's Remnant, TRUE church of Revelation 14, "the dragon was wrath with the woman and went to make war with the Remnant of her seed who keep the commandment of Jesus and have the testimony of Jesus."

Hi Blessed,

I just saw your post. Glad you got home safely. I am still amazed that you were left the SDA church at the age I joined the church.

On the Sabbath morning of my/our baptism, during the church service, the evangelist gave a presentation about Ellen White (oddly, he never mentioned her during the nightly meetings).

I don't remember if we were asked whether we believed in her, but by the time he finished the presentation, what was there to dispute. We bought the lie why not another. At the time I was convinced she was sent from God. I was so ignorant of bible teaching.

Cortney,
I was born into adventism and went to their schools from 1st grade through university. I spent my first year of college in a public school, then my second year I went to an SDA college. I was guilt tripped into going.
I remember being afraid of the IJ. I studied it and passed all the tests, then promptly forgot it. Thank you God!!! You are awesome.

I was also born into it. Although I always had grave questions about the IJ because my mother did (and she did because her older brother, Sam Pestes, actually left the Adventist pastorate over the issue), but I still thought it might be true. I was taught the doctrine in school, and I always felt I had to hedge my bets.

Even though I had doubts, somewhow I still believed that my unconfessed sins would keep me out of heaven. I cannot adequately explain how much angst this fear caused me during my teens. I had trouble sleeping because of the worry and fear.

My fear abated during college when I heard Morris Venden give a week of prayeróbut even though he helped me to see that my sins weren't the focus of my religious experience, he still did not present the pure gospel.

In truth, Cortney, the spirit of Adventism holds its members in a tight grip. I believe that people who are saved before becoming Adventists usually have less trouble facing the church's problems when they finally become aware of them. Jesus actually holds their hearts in a profound way that seems to have a protective effect against unquestioning acceptance of all Adventism's claims. They are more able not to be in denial. I believe that Jesus is the reason that people converted to Adventism from other Christian churches where they were previously saved seem less blind when they begin to see the inconsistencies of Adventism.

I was truly, decieved my hubby told me the only difference between my church and his, was that his completely obeyed the 10 commandments, him meaning the {Sabbath Truth}! I almost feel after 4 years of listening to sermons[EGW Books were always on pulpit next to the bible]trying to convince my family and friends SDA was the true church [for 4 years],being active and helping others in chuch-I felt coming out of the church that I had been, decived, and they through thier theology, EGW writings, and thier laws and, the whole doing goods works to ensure your salvation [According to them God is going to Judge us on our good works, and they better be sufficient to attain salvation]I felt they had robbed me of my God given right - to know that I'm saved by Grace through Faith. Boy, that church left me confused and somewhat bitter and sad for them! I have good friends and family member, who remain SDA, I pray for them everday. God loves them, despite their ignorance, but I think He hurts to see the SDA church misleading people about the gift of salvation[works to them] and the true Jesus, the Perfect Final Atonement, who died for all of us! His rightessnous is suffient for all who truly confess Him in their hearts! Adventist good works and laws and thier theology of knowledge and [present truth]aren't sufficient to gain or earn salvation. Most importantly the SabbathKeeping makes them no more rightous then we the believers are. Are rightesnous is in Christ! His Rightessnous is suffient for all belivers! We all fall short no matter how hard we try not to stumble, we still will! That's why we are truly saved by Grace through geniune Faith in Him,our Savior and Redeemer! EGW would probally be flipping in her grave if she new we FA's were writing, teaching and testifying to these new testament biblical truths! It's Spiritual Warefare and we need to pray for them they don't understand the True Gospel, the true Jesus, the true Gift of Salvation by Grace, not works. They don't understand in Jesus lies our salvation!

Cortney, my ex also said the only difference between my church and his church was they had services on Saturday instead of Sunday. I used to think he was ignorant of what Sunday churches taught, always giving him the benefit of the doubt...but I was the one who was wrong. His church spends lots of time telling them why they are the 'only true church'. It was just deception because he knew I wouldn't give adventism (and him) a second glance otherwise. It was that deceptive spirit that permeated our entire relationship, and is the only thing left after it has ended.

Welcome, by the way. How does your family feel about adventism and how has it affected those relationships? Did you try to convert them?

Yes, my close family, mom, dad, sisters, friends from other churches. They were polite to me when I witnessed to them about the sabbath and EGW,.I told them she was truly alast day prophet and her many prophecies and wonderful books she had written all proved she was inspired by God.They all gave me the same response-that SDA church didn't seem very biblicaly grounded. They also thought I was crazy for me wanting to be baptized SDA, after I told them about the [Sabbath Truth] and [Soul Sleep] and the[2300day prophecy in Daniel which is the sancuary docterine and IJ]. Which I never accepted to be true. That docterine alone is what got me researching into True SDAism. Anyway they were very concered about my spiritual well-being, and they belived the SDA church was a cult.Don't even get them started on how they felt about EGW! But I was brainwashed and blinded ,and decieved,in truly believing SDA was the Remnant in Reveltians. No one could or would covince me otherwise I had SDA set in my mind. I know during that whole time they prayed for me ,that I would see into the SDA deception and just Follow the True Gospel and the True Jesus. Their prayers were answered, I left the church last July, with no doubts, just alot of hurt.

Hi Bmorgan,

We got back from Palm Springs on Wednesday night and it was hard to come back to snow and cold weather. We had an awesome holiday and met so many wonderful people through the FAF weekend. One couple from the FAF weekend were also vacationing in Palm Springs so we had dinner with them one evening during the week. It was great to share and again rejoice in what the Lord is doing in our lives. We went back to Trinity for the next Sunday and so enjoyed hearing Gary Inrig preach. He sure can make scriptural passages come alive. Had some good fellowship in the afternoon with some formers and then it was time to say goodbye and go back to Palm Springs. If you come to visit your sister please let me know and we can connect.

Blessed
