Tonight my church has started something very exciting and I want to share it with you. Have any of you heard of the Celebrate Recovery groups that started with Rick Warren's church at Saddleback?
This is based on the Bible and the 12 steps of alcoholics anonymous. It is God centered. In a 12 step group a person introduces themselves by saying my name is--- and I am a compulsive eater/alcoholic/drug addict, etc. In these meetings the person will introduce themselves and asy My name is---and I am a believer in Jesus Christ who struggles with an eating disorder, etc.
I have struggled with my eating disorder for a long time. When I was baptized in June 2004 God took it away for about 3 months and I thanked him. Now that I am pre diabetic, even though I have lost weight and the glucose level has come down, I need to lose more weight and get the glucose down to normal. Tonight was just the introduction of what this program is all about. I love the 12 step programs, but God is not the focus and I prefer it when he is. So, please pray for this program and me and all the participants. The pastor in charge is a recovering alcoholic and has been to AA and to the Celebrate Recovery and still continues in it. I need recovery so I will not get diabetic.
If any of you know about this group, please write it here. Apparently it has spread from SaddleBack across the US.
I had to share this with you and ask for your prayers for me and this program. Because of my history of Chronic Fatigue, I no longer have the symptoms, but I get tired easily, I need your prayers for that also, so I can go to all these meetings. God arranged for me to leave work early today, so I came home and took a nap. Thank you God.
God is awesome in all He does.

I will keep you and your group in remembrance Dianna, my wife is diabetic, has struggled with over weight for many years, when diabetes kicks in it compounds the problem I think.

Hi Diana,

I love this change in emphasis. I was a previous attendee of a 12 step recovery program (OA) and I finally left that group because the emphasis seemed to be more on the pathology, identifying as a compulsive...fill in the blank...instead of on recovery. By focusing on the healing power of Christ who helps individuals who are struggling (and who isn't struggling with something?) group members are freed from becoming mired down in identification with a pathological label. You will be in my prayers and best of luck to your budding group.

Cindy, I belong to OA also. I never had more than 3 months at a time of not eating inappropriately. And I have been in it for 23 years this June. In this Celebrate Recovery group I am really glad that the emphasis is on Jesus and I have a struggle with food/sugar. If you are interested there are groups like this all across the USA.
Thanks for the prayers.
God, you are awesome.

I'm in Celebrate Recovery at my church. I talk about it so much that my mom is signing up for it at a NON SDA church in her area.

I love it! It's a wonderful group.

Sabra,
That is so nice that your Mom is signing up for it at a NON SDA church. God is working on her and we will continue praying for her.
Thanks for sharing.
Diana
