I would not say that her words have "life" (that is a blasphemous claim of hers--the Word of God is living [Heb 4:12] and Jesus said the words He spoke ARE life [John 6:54]), but her writings do have a demonic power associated with them.

That is a pretty spooky quote by EGW!

Pretty spooky?!!! It about freaks me plumb out, and along with the new info you sent me about the Masonic hob glob I'm gonna have to come up with stronger words than weeping puss!
Pretty spooky? Thats enough to make a graveyard dog tuck his tail between his leg and head for the high country.

What strikes me is that she makes scriptural claims for her writings—but out of the other side of her mouth declares the Bible is our only rule of faith and practice. She was SO crazy-making...and this crazy-making affirmation of grace alone by faith alone through Christ alone, that so many Adventists claim, is held simultaneously with security being tied to the Sabbath, with the necessity of affirming the IJ in some way, and with the honoring of prophetess who, they insist, "Never called herself a prophet!"

It makes me think of Babel.

River, this is the underlying belief that gives power to all Adventist doctrines. No matter what they say in public, what Ellen said MUST be taken seriously--or at least considered as a plausible option. Maybe she wasn't a true prophet with an eternal message...but maybe she was!! We can't let go, because she might be right.

It absolutely is darkness and confusion, and no matter how articulate the Adventist public statements may be nor how orthodox they sound, Ellen was never orthodox in her theology, her soteriology, or her Christology. I'm always amazed that when apologists try to figure out whether or not a group is Christian or not, they tend to believe the words of the representatives and dismiss the words of those who leave. Why would they ever think the official representatives would reveal the whole truth?

Colleen wrote: Jackob, that is a fascinating analysis. I've never looked at it quite that way before: Ellen's words are alive, and they have the power to make all types of Adventists rally around the SECONDARY things instead of the Primary THING!

FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS!

I’ve concluded that I am incapable of focusing on two things at the same time. When I focus on the results of my relationship with Jesus, quite obviously, I am not focused on Jesus. Also, focusing on results
(works...) will lead either to self-righteousness (look at how good I am-I deserve salvation) or despair (I’m not good enough-I cannot be saved). If, however, I focus ONLY on Jesus (in Christ) I have God’s promise of the Holy Spirit in me (Christ in me).How anyone can conclude that saying ‘Jesus is enough’ will lead to lawlessness is beyond comprehension. It appears that those who fear lawlessness either do not believe in the promise of the Holy Spirit or believe that the Holy Spirit is powerless to guide the believer. Jesus died for ME-such love will not abandon me to my own devises. God, who knew me before I was born, who knows me now and who knows my future, who knows my heart, does not need to establish tests (Sabbath?-I’ve not perfectly ‘kept’ 1,820 Sabbaths-shoot me now and put me out of my misery), a test I cannot pass, to prove my loyalty. What foolishness!

When God brought my attention to the D. Anderson's website and I read all about EGW, in Jan 2004, I told God and myself, I cannot go back to that church. When I said that I felt a burden lifted off my shoulders, that I did not know was there. It was a real burden and I felt it lifted off. God freed me at that time and lifted the veil off my eyes and mind.
Praise God, He is so awesome.

I believe that Dianna, I also believe God wants to lift our burdens, as the old songs says......

"Take you burden to the Lord and leave there'

And if you trust and do not doubt, he will surely bring you out'

So just take your burden to the Lord and leave it there'

You left that burden right there and when they said pick it back up you said thanks but no thanks.
Am I reading this about right Dianna?

River,
You got it absolutely correct. When the SDAs on CARM tell me there are beautiful, spiritual things EGW writes, I just tell them I will read the Bible and other Christian authors. The same when we discuss the IJ. I tell them it is not Biblical and I cannot believe it. They may have all kinds of Bible texts listed. When I read them I see no IJ in them.
So, yes, the burden is left in Jesus hands.
Praise God for that.

HALLOWEEN TOMBSTONES NOW AVAILABLE

Wiccans and their comrades can now order concrete-looking obelisk props online for just $24.95 (www.frightcatalog.com) to make graves look somewhat similar to those of Ellen and James White at Oak Hill Cemetery. These gray obelisk props can be filled with sand for perpetuity and are guaranteed to be rust-proof. Wow, what a nostalgic touch for devotees of false prophetesses and anti-Trinitarians!

Dennis, you make me laugh!

Jeremy, you're right. Sigh. It's really an ongoing work of God to face the truth about our past and to be willing to "know". All this reminds me very much of a young woman I know who grew up in a severley abusive home where there was meth manufacturing, molestation, threats of gunshots, etc etc.

Today this young woman is holding a job, finishing college, and doing well in many ways, but she suffers from severe PTSD and a life-threatening eating disorder. Perhaps the most common remark I hear from her regarding her past is this: "I can't believe it was really that bad."

Her body is in terrible shape from her eating, etc., and in spite of being in long-term counseling, she still can't "get her head around" the truth. I often tell her, "Your body is telling you what your head won't accept. Believe the symptoms."

In so many ways we suffer similarly, although at less life-threatening levels, thank God. We struggle with trust, with wanting to believe that people we love/loved are truly good and love God, that our experience wasn't THAT abnormal for a Christian, etc. Yet the proof that what we went through is really serious lies in our long, slow, difficult processing of our doubts about God's reliability, in our the internal disconnect between thinking people know Jesus while they refuse to deal with facts, in the the lingering doubts about Sabbath/salvation, in the continuous hostility from those who claim to love us, in our difficulty in trusting Jesus and accepting these painful rejections as the proof of the spiritual dissonance between our past and our present with Jesus.

Praise God for being faithful.

Colleen
