Hey guys,

I was talking with my mom about her early dealings with crazy people in Adventism. She mentioned Mike Clute. She went on to say that he was a cult leader from Oregon who went off the deep end.

My mom's dad was his right hand man for several years in the late 70's. My mom grew up with his kids and helped in the kitchen on the compound that they stayed at. She even helped pack the "end times back packs." Yes, they thought the end was near and they'd better head for them there hills...

My mom said his "ministry" (I use that in the lightest of terms) was called "God's Last Call." They have a website. It is a bunch of EGW quotes and hardly anything about the Gospel. Go figure.

When we went to Oregon this past May, she pointed out the road that you had to turn on to get to the compound. I told her, "So that's the place that the cult used to meet at?" She looked at me and said that it was a group of devoute people who had been led astray. I told her no that it wasn't that, but was actually a cult that she belonged to at the time. She paused and then agreed.

I don't know if you guys had any thoughts on this guy or what. I know what my mom has told me, but I want to know what you guys knew. I praise God for leading my mom out of that cult!!!

I remember Mike Clute. He used to stay at our house when he came through Kentucky. I remember liking to hear him talk, and being intrigued by the 'hidden messages' he could find in just about any magazine picture - especially in advertisements of pharmaceuticals, alcohol, and tobacco.

Mom read from his book "God Does Not Kill" at bedtimes for awhile. It did a very good job of picturing supposed interaction between God the Father and His son. What bothered me even then was the idea that God had the devil do all his dirty work - God did not punish his children, according to Mr. Clute, instead He turned them over to Satan - who was some sort of separate evil doer. What bugged me was this - what parent will call in his or her enemy to discipline their children?
