Over the past few weeks, my husband and I have been looking at buying a particular piece of land so that we can relocate our dental practice to a better area. There is a lot involved with this project, and at this stage of the "deal", we're still not sure how it will play out. At this point, it could still go either way. But one thing IS for sure--God is completely in control. This entire venture has been one huge "God thing". He has brought us in contact with trustworthy people to help guide us through this, opened doors that wouldn't seem to budge, and overall has provided us with peace and patience throughout this whole project. That is actually the biggest miracle of all. My husband and I are praying together in ways that we have never experienced before, and as a result we are seeing God's hand in our lives not just in the obvious ways, but also the quiet ways. Our eyes are becoming more and more open to Him, and our faith is growing as a result. It's been so awesome. This morning, as I was thinking about our situation, a song that we've been singing in church recently, was playing through my head. I think the name of the song is "Everlasting God", and the particular part of the song that kept playing over and over was the phrase "Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord..." As I thought about what it means to "wait on the Lord" and have "strength rise", I started thinking of the Bible text that talks about this. "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." (Is. 40:31) In my study this morning, I looked up the Hebrew word for "wait". The word is "qavah". The first definition means to wait, look for, hope, or expect. My personality is a "make it happen" type of personality. I'm pretty driven, and have always been under the philosophy that if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish and achieve anything. Living in an instant-gratification type of society only fed into my compulsion. "Waiting" is not something I'm particularly good at! As a result, most of my life I have grown weary from running around trying to manage my life. It's been a huge paradigm shift for me to sit back, and allow God to work in areas I have no control over. I am beginning to see the "strength" gained in that, and have slowly learned that it's a great blessing to my soul to see how God plays things out according to His purpose without my interfering. God's expectations are far greater than mine could ever be. To wait: to eagerly hope for AND expect... The second definition of "wait" is "to bind together". I found this definition interesting, and didn't quite get it at first. But as I substitute that definition into the Bible text, it's beautiful. "But those who BIND TOGETHER with the Lord shall renew their strength..." Wow! How true! When we are in close communion with Him, realize our weaknesses, and submit our lives completely to Him, only then do we have real strength to face life's uncertainties. I heard it said once that God makes his power perfect in weakness, for it is there that He is able to do for us what we in our strength do not let Him do. Anyway, just some thoughts from my devotions/study this morning that I wanted to share--I couldn't keep it to myself! Grace | ||

Grace, Thanks for sharing what God is doing in your lives. I like Is. 40:31, there is also an old song we used to sing at church back in the 70's but haven't heard it in a long time, the song is based on that scripture. That song brings back many good memories of my early Christianity and some great people I have known. The song went like this. Those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles' They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint' Teach me Lord, teach me Lord to wait' Blessings.
