Wahoooo! I finally got the nerve to join and post here. I've lurked for a long long while.

A little about me

Over the years I have grown weary of the Adventist pinball machine experience. Bouncing my mind around trying to justify various doctrines and EGW. I guess we have all been there, reliving the Great Dissapointment.

I began as a conservative
then progressive Adventist
conservative
progressive...again

I have been exposed to just about every herasy to branch from Adventism. Not that i actually joined, but, i have been given some scary literature.
All in all I came out all right, by the grace of God.

The one thing I really know for sure is that i know absolutely nothing. My mind and spirit have been so trained by SDA definations and EGW, I need to start from scratch.

Though I have lurked forever, i really feel like family here already.

So, here's to Victory in Christ!!

Your new friend
Ken

Ken, welcome to FAF.
You are so right when you say "I know nothing". That is how I felt when I started reading the Bible that helped lead me out of adventism.
Glad you came out of the lurker mode and joined us.
God is so awesome in how He leads each of us out.

Welcome Ken,

I also know what you mean about knowing nothing after we left SDA. This morning I was reading Colossian 2:15-23, and verse 18, really jumped out at me and I thought of EGW's teachings. I feel like a baby learning to crawl as I am also new at coming out.

May God bless you as you learn from His word.

Hi Ken,
Welcome aboard! We are on a ship headed for paradise with a wonderful pilot, Jesus Christ. The crew is friendly and the accommodations are great. So, find a berth to your liking and head for the chow line.

Leigh Anne,

I am rich and it all came from one nickel at a time. By the way, I am a junior and dad came before that other guy who married Alice Faye. And, I have a son, the III. He has said there never ever will be a grandson named the IV. Also, the only riches I claim are deposited in our heavenly bank.

Ken,

I suspect you probably already know what I am about to say, but I will say it anyway. It is not what you know but who you know that counts. Your relationship with the Lord and the sealing testimony of the Holy Spirit in your life is paramount. All else comes afterwards. The Lord seems to combine knowledge with experience and that takes time.

I will soon celebrate my 66th birthday but it will also be 50 years out of SDAism. The point I am making is that after all these years I am still finding EGW teachings floating around in my mind that need removing. Just by posting on this forum, indicates to me that you know much more than "nothing".

Your brother and friend in the Lord,
Phil

Welcome Ken!

I've been out for almost 30 years and I'm still learning. The journey is awesome.

Ken, welcome to the forum. It's good to see you on here.
You are not alone regarding the sentiments you expressed in the words below.

"The one thing I really know for sure is that
i know absolutely nothing. My mind and spirit
have been so trained by SDA definations and
EGW, I need to start from scratch."

Your words resonate with me. I can now shamefully admit that as an Adventist I was spiritually prideful but thankfully God humbled and is humbling me.

Now, because I know that I know nothing, I can fully rely on God to teach me from His Word alone. Best of all, I am experiencing the life changing reality of Jesus Christ.

Ken,

So you are "...starting from scratch". Sounds like God has you right where He wants you. Welcome to the Forum.

Hi Ken,
It's so good to have you here!

I, too, am shocked at how little I actually know of the Bible truth. As former Adventists, we thought we "knew it all". I was raised as a faculty kid at (Saint) Andrews University. I would go out with my Dad to give "Bible Speaks" bible study lessons -- which I now know were not bible studies at all, but rather SDA catechism classes where the unsuspecting non-Adventist would be prompted to "fill in" the right answers.

As a child I tried faithfully to follow Ellen White's writings. Fortunately the Lord has never let me go, and I am trying to "dejunk" my brain from all of her foolishness, and inconsistencies.

The true Gospel of grace is so exciting and precious!

Hi Ken *waving*

I'm another newbie to the forum.

Starting from scratch is a humbling experience.

I have spent years trying to salvage what I could from SDA doctrine, to be an "evangelical adventist". I thought it might be possible when I lived in the western US where there is some tolerance for "progressive adventism" , but when I moved back to the midwest, I realized that "evangelical adventism" is really a mirage; it does not really exist apart from its historic roots.

I have not returned to the SDA church in 15 months.

I'll be glad to join you on your journey.

Hi Ken, Welcome aboard! I'm also new to the forum though I've been a lurker for a few months. I agree with Phil that it's the sealing of the Holy Spirit that counts. Ephesians 1:13 says that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit (which is another clash with Ellen White who says that the Sabbath is the seal) and the next verse says that the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance.
