I was 18 and voraciously devouring all the EGW material I could get my hands on. I would read multiple books at a time, study my sabbath school lesson, and attend all the meetings I could. I was a fifth gen Adventist and felt so blessed that we had the truth.

Sure some thing troubled me, I just thought thats what it meant to be a christian and put it away.
Actually I was in total fear of Gods rejection. To make things worse, as a good Adventist I was isolated into doing only SDA approved things.

One night I woke from a terrible nightmare in a horrible cold sweat. I dreamt i was in the middle of a storm and that the storm represented Gods displeasure with me. I looked into a dark, cloudy, stormfilled sky and saw two piercing eyes looking on me with anger. The clouds parted just enough that I could make a face out. Guess what, it was not God looking on me, it was Ellen White.

I'm 41 now and I still don't know if that dream was my own infected psyche or from another source. The only thing I can say for sure is that no denomination that brings that kind of raw terror is from God.

Until now, the only person I have mentioned this to is my brother.

I now know that I'm not alone, I love the Lord and know that he loves me. I now have some peace.
I also finally believe that God heals.

I hope I don't run anyone off with my rant.

Ken,
You are not the only one who had night mares. I used to dream Satan was trying to contact me. God has stopped those dreams and they have been stopped for a very long time.
God has you in his hands now and will not let go of youl He is so awesome.

Ken,
At least you were asleep, I have nightmares about her in the daytime!!

I think you will feel right at home here, I get a vision of a shriveled up, bitter old woman with a big black wart on her nose the size of a dime, hair in a big bun and a drab Grey dress pointing her gnarled finger at people, when I first seen the real spirit behind Adventism I almost lost my lunch and I ain't kiddin you.

It would be extremely difficult to run anybody off of here because of a rant or two, most of us been there, so you go ahead and get it off your chest.

I'm glad you told us about it, it keeps us from feeling like we are going nuts or something.

At least for me it does, I might get ragged a little for speaking for all the folks so I will qualify my statement.

Ken, thanks for sharing your dream. Wow. I believe every word you wrote, and no matter the specific source of your dream, it does reveal the source of Adventism. It was not God.

Perhaps this author was the source of your nightmare:

quote:

The blood rushed to my brain, frequently causing me to reel and nearly fall. I had the nosebleed often, especially after making an effort to write. I was compelled to lay aside my writing, but could not throw off the burden of anxiety and responsibility upon me, as I realized that I had testimonies for others which I was unable to present to them. (1T 576.2)

That night I dreamed that I was in Battle Creek looking out from the side glass at the door and saw a company marching up to the house, two and two. They looked stern and determined. I knew them well and turned to open the parlor door to receive them, but thought I would look again. The scene was changed. The company now presented the appearance of a Catholic procession. One bore in his hand a cross, another a reed. And as they approached, the one carrying a reed made a circle around the house, saying three times: "This house is proscribed. The goods must be confiscated. They have spoken against our holy order." Terror seized me, and I ran through the house, out of the north door, and found myself in the midst of a company, some of whom I knew, but I dared not speak a word to them for fear of being betrayed. I tried to seek a retired spot where I might weep and pray without meeting eager, inquisitive eyes wherever I turned. I repeated frequently: "If I could only understand this! If they will tell me what I have said or what I have done!" (1T 577.2)

I wept and prayed much as I saw our goods confiscated. I tried to read sympathy or pity for me in the looks of those around me, and marked the countenances of several whom I thought would speak to me and comfort me if they did not fear that they would be observed by others. I made one attempt to escape from the crowd, but seeing that I was watched, I concealed my intentions. I commenced weeping aloud, and saying: "If they would only tell me what I have done or what I have said!" My husband, who was sleeping in a bed in the same room, heard me weeping aloud and awoke me. My pillow was wet with tears, and a sad depression of spirits was upon me. (1T 578.1)

Unbelievable. Sometimes it's almost embarrassing to really admit the "stuff" I ignored yet tacitly accepted. It's no wonder we were embarrassed to admit to "outsiders" that we "had a prophet". What a prophet...! No wonder so many of us had nightmares, insomnia, chronic fear, persistent anxiety...

Praise Jesus He redeems the past.

I had trouble sleeping all of the years I was an Adventist. Now I sleep like a baby. Wonder why?
