I just wanted to mention what happened when I went to the Adventist church a couple days ago for Sabbath School. (This was one of the smaller churches here in the valley and there were two Sabbath School classes.) The class I went to started late so the teacher didn't get to the part where Hagar is mentioned, until it was almost time for class to be over. (This lesson was about Abraham and Sarah.) I finally got to talk a little about what I had planned to say and read the texts in Galatians 4:22-26 where it compares Hagar and Sarah to the old and new covenants. I tried to go into it further, but the classtime was ending so I didn't get to say much more. However there was a young lady sitting next to me. She was wearing jewelry and makeup which usually identifies someone as a "non-Adventist" to SDAs. I got to speak to her for a few minutes longer. I went more into the covenants, showing her Deuteronomy 4:13 which identifies the old covenant and explained that the Sabbath was the sign of the old covenant - Exodus 31:13. I showed her that the old covenant is obsolete - Hebrews 8:13. I explained that Ellen White said that the Sabbath is the seal, but showed her Ephesians 1:13 which says that the Holy Spirit is the Seal. She didn't seem to know anything about Ellen White. (That's typical though for Adventists not to say anything about Ellen White at first - they don't want to "scare" a potential convert away!) There's a couple Ellen White books that I'd purchased just to be able to see and show the contradictions between her and the Bible and I had been planning to bring them, but I forgot them. The teacher, though, had brought his copy of "Patriarchs and Prophets" which was one of the books. He had left it on the table that we had been sitting around, so I picked it up and turned to the chapter entitled "After the Flood." In it Ellen White quotes that verse in Genesis 9:3 where God tells Noah, "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you..." Then in her very next sentence, Ellen White contradicts both the Bible and herself, saying that God gave Noah the "clean beasts" that had been preserved in the ark.
Anyway, I hope, with the Lord's help! to have innoculated her against Adventism.

I hope so too, Dianne.

One is spared a lot of misery if they avoid Adventism.

It is a miserable system started in error by a miserable person(EGW) who probably thought everyone else should be as miserable as she was.

There's certainly no joy, peace, or happiness in Adventism.

Dianne,

Praise God! What a great witness. I am so happy that you were able to plant that seed. What a great story!

I just received an email back from Robert Edwards (Out of Babylon). He wasn't convinced by my letter and feels that the Lord has led him to the SDA church, so I'd rather not post his letter. I sure wish people would go by what the Bible says instead of what appears to be supernatural circumstances in their lives. (He got 3ABN which had been slated for the next county, but he got it instead.) I was really disappointed by his letter.
I think the devil's purpose in starting up all those cults in the 18 hundreds, was to get people to accept a "different Jesus" and a "different gospel." If people have a different Jesus, how can they be saved??

I just wrote Robert Edwards another letter back, this time making no mention of the SDA church. I just wrote to him what the BIBLE says. I'd like to put it here:

Dear Robert,
I agree that our eyes need to be on Jesus. I’m just saying that we need to be so grounded in His word, that we won’t ever be deceived.

I’ve been learning more about the Holy Spirit in the last few weeks. I had never known His importance before. He’s so important that Romans 8:9 says that “if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”

I’ve learned that the Holy Spirit is the Seal of God and the Guarantee of our salvation. “…in Whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13,14

Please read carefully and prayerfully, Romans, Galatians and Hebrews (without using any other writings or person to “explain” it, okay?)

I know that God made a covenant with Israel. “So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.” Deuteronomy 4:13

When Jesus died, He replaced that old covenant with the new. The New Testament is the new covenant. “For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood.” Hebrews 9:16-18

In the new covenant (New Testament), God writes His laws on our hearts instead of on stone. (Hebrews 10:16) The types that pointed forward to Christ; the sacrifices, the Sabbaths and circumcision were fulfilled. Now we have circumcision of the heart and Jesus is our rest. (Hebrews 4) (Colossians 2:14-17)

The old covenant is obsolete. “In that He says, ‘A new covenant,’ He has made the first obsolete.” (Hebrews 8:13) “…there is also a change of the law.” (Hebrews 7:12) and “…an annulling of the former commandment…” (Hebrews 7:18).

But read the New Testament (new covenant) for yourself, prayerfully. Just you and God, without any other people or writings to interpret.

One of my favorite passages contrasts the covenants, telling how the new covenant is the “ministry of the Spirit”!!! “But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious…” “…how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?” (2 Corinthians 3:7,8)

Sincerely, Dianne

Oops, I forgot to mention to him that demons perform miraculous signs too. (Revelation 16:14) Since he thought that was a miracle that he got 3ABN where he lived.
