I mentioned something on CARM about the possiblity that Nero may have been the "beast" of Revelation. It makes sense that Revelation would have been relevant to that time, to enocourage Christians who were being horribly persecuted by Nero. Plus Nero's name in Hebrew, Neron Kesar adds up to 666. I got this tidbit of info from the EGW Research Project website An Adventist on CARM actually told me that this is a Jehovah's Witness idea and why don't I go check them out, maybe I would agree with some of their other ideas. Why is it that adventist always tell you to join some other denomination when your discussing theology? It's a closed minded way of categorizing faith. I've been told to join a baptist or lutheran church when i was discussing the old covenant to them. (Message edited by luzisbornagain on July 19, 2007) | ||

IMO there is also compelling evidence to see him as the 6th king. Reb, I agree that Nero was known as "the beast" throughout the Roman Empire. If in doubt about Nero's extraordinary, profane life simply check it out online. Alot of Revelation was fulfilled in the First Century. The initial audience of the Apostle John knew precisely what he was talking about. Dennis Fischer | ||

Without going into it too much, I think it's possible that Nero may have been a *shadow* of the final beast (just as Antiochus shadowed the fall of Jerusalem, and the fall of Jerusalem shadows the end), but Nero cannot be the final/full meaning of the text at all. One reason is that Revelation 19:20 clearly says that the beast was thrown "alive" into the lake of fire. And not only that, but that he was thrown in "with the false prophet". One thing I've learned from my time in Adventism: if a theory doesn't fit *exactly*, don't squeeze Scripture to make it fit. |
