My wife read EGW in Indonesian when she was growing up. Hmmmmmm I wonder. EGWs errors were probably left out in Indonesian translations as well.

I was just reading this thread and it reminded me of a story that was told to me when I was a young girl in Adventism. A man who worked as a colportor said that when he would sell Ellen's books weird things would happen in the home that he was staying in - ie. tables moving etc. He indicated that Satan was trying to scare him because he was giving people the "truth". Of course as a young child I actually believed this and interestingly still remember it now. The story has such new meaning for me now - yes Satan was involved but in a much different way. As for the man who was the colportor - he ended up having an affair with one of the teachers at the Academy and got her pregnant. He left his wife and I think three daughters and married the teacher who of course was dismissed from the school.

If this is an SDA site, why does it say the seal of God is the holy spirit? Read the section titled the seal of God. They obviously are pushing the 7th day sabbath, but do not call it the seal of God.

But BiblePlus can be accessed from the SDA Global Website. Maybe they're SDA "sympathisers"

Marysroses said: "I'm guessing the translations of EGW into other languages are very well 'cleaned up'? After all, why bother translating anything embarrassing or bothersome. Somehow I just question the ethics of an organization that will publish the Clear Word bible, which after all, is the bible 'cleaned up' so as not to cause anyone any discomfort... Its terrible to think what could be in those translations... UGH! Can you imagine? EGW carefully reinterpreted to get those predictions right? Update the health message then claim it was given over a hundred years ago??? "

Actually, Marysroses, the problem is that the overwhelming majority of SDAs whose mother other is not English cannot read Ellen White's books in English. So, combine that with the historical lack of global communication, and the tight control of SDA ministers over church information coming from the U.S... There barely any need to clean up EGW writings, is there?

I come from Latin America. I am aware that the "amalgamation" text was still in one of EGW's old book editions -- in Spanish. I was told a pastor quoted this verbatim to a young man to keep him from marrying a girl of mix race. And this happened in a country that is primordially of racial mix heritage: Puerto Rico!

Gradually, eyes are being opened up to the deception. Unfortunately, EGW's "literary borrowings" happened from English books and were incorporated in English. You cannot find Milton's "Paradise Lost", Daniel Marsh's "Night Scenes in the Bible", or Alfred Edersheim's "Elisha The Prophet" or other plagiarized authors translated in Spanish or other languages. Even if you do, languages are funny things, they diverge. In the best of situations, you'd have to find some of this books translated by the same translator.

I know of two countries (in the Caribbean and in Africa) were Ellen's plagiarism was recently "discovered" by pastors who eventually left "the work". Sadly, what is happening is many young people are leaving the church disolutioned -- still holding Adventism as the true church, just cannot keep its "commandments and doctrines".

What compounds the problem even more is that Adventism in Third World countries is as conservative, if not more, than the Adventism found, for example, at Southern U. in Tennessee. Especially in Latin America, people are culturally conditioned to be followers -- independent thinking is really not the norm. Though things are changing.

The SDA churches in Indonesia are also very conservative and totally believe in EGW.

Probably, from what I've heard, the most liberal SDA churches in the world are in Australia.

And "non-ethnic" SDA Churches in Southern California are also pretty liberal from what I've heard, though my entire time in Adventism was spent in "ethnic"(Asian) SDA churches in Southern California which are VERY conservative.

Olga, I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I now live in Silver Springs, MD. I think I read somewhere in FAF that you are from NY and one or both of your parents are from PR, too. I still have family there, as well as here. Some of them are ministers or work in some capacity for SDA organizations, including the General Conference.

To keep the family peace, I have refrained from revealing any further information here, because I'm waiting for a time when younger members of my family begin questioning EGW, as I know that some have already. Also, revealing something like this to some of the more conservative family members can become a major family crisis.

Eyesopen,

I'm actually originally from Connecticut, now living in South Florida. My family lives back in Puerto Rico and they are still SDA. I came back from a visit there several weeks ago. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...in one instance I knew they were talking about me and my leaving the church and attending another but they changed the conversation when they realized I was within earshot.

Two or 3 nights before heading back home, my dad said he wanted to talk to me about my leaving the church. I respectfully told him that I would not want to engage in any "religion" talk as I knew he would try to change my views and taht would be a waste of his time. He said that I was leaving the fold, to which I replied: "The fold belongs to Jesus and not to any church, SDA or another." I added that I was actually ok with not having all the doctrinal answers and felt that following the Holy Spirit's not a human's lead was a better bet. I added that God can save SDA's and others based on their belief in his son and the salvation he offers (without any of the "external trappings" and requirements made by a pastor or a prophet.)

My dad didn't say a whole lot after that except to say I'm still his daughter, he loves me no matter what I choose to do.

I'll keep praying for them, especially my mother who I sense feels trapped and believes some but not all of the EGW stuff; my dad is more diehard.

Olga,
I am so glad you had a chance to speak to your Dad. At least he listened to you. That was the Holy Spirit. I am sure your Dad has his doubts but is not saying anything. Keep praying for them. One day they will want what you have.
Isn't our God awesome in how He works with us humans.

You are fortunate to have a family situation where your father listens. In my family, the word "apostasy" carries the meaning of absolute loss and irredemable sinfulness.

So, I bid my time.

I am in a similar situation as yours with my wife's side of my family, Eyesopen. My in-laws are dyed-in-the-wool, conservative, EGW believing Adventists. Most of them do not speak English and have only read EGWs books in Indonesian, where her errors have been most likely omitted in translation. If I were to "come out of the closet" to them, they would probably even blame my wife even though she is still an Adventist and I don't want to put her through that. My side of the family aren't Adventists so they don't care.

Olga, Praise God that your Dad listened to you! I don't even want to imagine how many of my in-laws would react if I "came out of the closet".
And I go to Seventh Day Baptist Church now, so I didn't even give up the Sabbath(though SDBs are not as "strict" about it as SDAs are.)

Does anyone know why this bibleplus site is a link on the sdaglobal site when they say the seal of God is the holy spirit and not the sabbath?

Reb, by hiding your true witness from your in-laws, aren't you are in effect giving them a false witness?

Can you prove from scripture where you should keep your beliefs a secret?

I seem to remember a Jesus quote that said he came to divide families. And that the truth was sharp as a two edged sword.

The sabbath rest was Israels righteousness. If you want to make works your righteousness, that is up to you, but you know what the NT says about it.
