My MIL always sends me SDA material, even she knows I no longer attend the church or share the same beliefs as SDA's. Anyway she sent me the'Unlocking the Signs' series by Shawn Boonstra. So for kicks I thought I'd check out what the series was all about. The 4 DVD's I watched spoke nothing on the Gospel or Christ.Shawn's focus was on obeying the Law,if you love God you'll obey all the Commandments, then he went on to talk about how in the end the people who obey all the Commandment will not recieve the 'Mark of the Beast'. Shawn just came across as very arrogant and all-knowing.Not to seem judgemental but watching and listening to him It just seemed he was'nt walking in the Spirit of Christ at all, it sickens me that the SDA religious and prophecy series can never keep their focus on 'Just Jesus' they always have to convince or guilt people to accept the SDA belief system and then accept Jesus. In some cases, like how I was converted it was about Jesus,at first, then after a little while they 'revealed' the true SDA fundamentals which was EGW and Sabbath.I never even knew about IJ until a year after attending church, when I was going over my baptismal vows and the pastor at that time really told me not to get worried about the IJ because it was biblical, and I was doubting because the devil didn't want me baptised SDA. I just want to know why do they either have to 'decieve' or use 'guilt' or both,to acquire membership? Anyway' I think Shawn Boonstra is a disgrace to the True Gospel,I just thought watching the videos how can he be so convinced and justified on the Law that he preaches it above the Gospel? I believe in keeping the commandments Christ gave us,but preaching the Law above the Gospel is walking on dangerous ground.Shawn and the SDA church are responsible for their deciet,I just think it's sad people attend these series to hear about bible prophecy and end up getting 'nailed' with the Law and SDA beliefs.I think if the apsotles were walking on earth today they would very angry and sad with SDA deciet, and putting the law above Christ. The apostles lives and commissions were all about conversion into the Body of Christ. It seems as though the SDA church has undermined the teachings of Christ and the work of the apostles. Any thoughts on this?

I agree with you 100%.

And IF I had knon the TRUTH about 1844 and Ellen White 15 years ago, I would NOT have ever converted to Adventism.

The Investigative Judgment insures a guilt-based relationship with God. It cannot be escaped. God offers us a totally grace based relationship. And then tells us to do the same to others. Have you ever noticed how a lot of SDA's struggle with guilt based relationships and use guilt as a tool to get what they want from others? They have never truly experienced grace and full assurance. They are not free to love. How does it make you feel when someone you love does something for you just to satisfy their own guilt? How does it make God feel?

Dear Cortney,

You are right in your assessment of SDA preaching law within a "cover" of grace-talk. The reason Shawn and other SDA evangelists cannot just preach Jesus is that their theology is not based on Jesus. In order to make true Adventists, they have to sell the law. They are not preaching Jesus—not because, necessarily, they arbitrarily refuse to, but because they are proseletyzing Adventist converts. Adventism is not the gospel. It is a system, a formula that appeals to the minds, but it stifles the Spirit. It wins people with cleverness and guilt, not with repentance and conviction.

Shawn can't truly preach Jesus, or he would not keep his job.

Summed up nicely, Colleen. SDA theology is absolutely not based on the gospel of Jesus Christ. The law scares people, Jesus saves. Those who depend on the law are under its curse. Those who serve the Sabbath commandment in order to be sealed and saved are only trying to save themselves because they cannot fully trust only Jesus to save them. It's a vicious, no-win circle - talk Jesus, do the law, talk Jesus, do the law, etc, etc, etc. Where is the peace and joy in Adventism? The same place it was for the Jews in Christ's day. Hidden in bad man-made theology? I don't think so.

When the leaders of the Adventist movement cease to cover up, rewrite the Bible and proseletyze their unscriptural eschatology, then and only then will the Gospel have a chance. Those pastors who quietly preach just the love of God around SDA theology are as much a part of the problem as the ones who will take their livelihood away should they tell the truth.

Colleen, your post #6573 is one of the most reality-based I've seen. Thank you.

I never got to meet him while working at the GC. Unfortunately I did meet Doug Batchelor and Mark Finely on several occassions, both of them were VERY haughty, arrogant and thought they could RUN on water, not walk on it. I think Finely was the worst, he was given a office at the GC a few months before I left, and he would walk in like he owned the building.
The ONLY big name evangalist I met that I thought was down to earth was Pastor Walter Pearson from The Breath of Life. He was a true man of God, unlike the others I mentioned.
