Since I didn't want to get the Flood Geology thread off track, but wanted to share more information about George McCready Price, I started this thread.

I will let this link explain itself:
http://www.angelfire.com/mo2/blackmormon/q45.htm

Amazing! It looks like the Mormon - Adventist influence went both ways.

Jorge, what a stunning find! This is only the tip of the iceberg with parallels between Ellen White and Joseph Smith. Incidently, there's just a little typo in the fascinating article that was linked, dating a significant EGW statement at 1963. White, of course, wrote the statement published in Spiritual Gifts, much later originally in 1864, then republished again as "Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 1, in 1870. It was titled, "Crime Before the Flood,"(See Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, p. 64, and p. 75). It's funny to read the Ellen G. White Estate's desperate attempts to respond to these racial slurs, bottom line: "We might leave the matter as being beyond the range of investigation or proof. The Bible itself contains some such statements, as all students of the Scriptures well know." Do I hear some classic blame-shifting going on here? Sounds to me like they're saying, "Ellen White sounds like a racist, but it's the Bible's problem, --you know one of those things we just have to accept by faith." I guess I'd have to agree with them, that many of Ellen G. White's statements and teachings are "...beyond the range of investigation or proof..." I am constantly amazed to encounter these SDA lines of reasoning that take the square root of travel from Earth to Mars, divided by Dan/814 times 1844 divided by 7 to understand! (Ha! Ha!)

I'm sorry, but I cannot resist sharing the complete context of the EGW Estate's response, --it makes no sense and commits to nothing: "Just what Mrs. White meant by these passages has been the occasion of some speculation through the years, and two explanations have been set forth. Some have held that she taught not only that men and beasts have cohabited but also that progeny resulted. However, those who hold this view have contended that this does not support the doctrine of evolution. The evolution theory depends for its life on the idea that small, simple living structures can gradually evolve into ever higher forms of life, finally bringing forth man.

"That more or less closely related forms of life may cross and produce hybrids is not questioned by creationists today. That, in the long ago, when virility was greater, and conditions possibly in some respects different, more diverse forms of life might have crossed--such as man and some higher forms of animals--can be set forth only as an assumption. But this assumption has marshaled against it the whole weight of scientific belief today. Of course, scientists have been wrong, at times, in reasoning that all the past must be understood in terms of the processes we now see going on.

"We might leave the matter as being beyond the range of investigation or proof. The Bible itself contains some such statements, as all students of the Scriptures well know." http://www.whiteestate.org/issues/amalg.html

All I can say is "Wow?"

Great research, Jorge, --but you did get us off the Flood Geology track!

Gilbert,
My apologies for "Jorge," I was looking at your user name and couldn't even get that right! I was also just kidding about getting off track!

Pastor Mark, no problem. I am absolutely excited that both you and Dale Ratzlaff are now posting here! Now we need to get Clay Peck to sign up as well. This forum is really a rapidly expanding ministry.

By the way, I have certainly enjoyed the many resources at your website. I recently purchased the CD on the covenants, as well as the DVD on the Spirit behind Adventism. Excellent!

Pastor Mark, the quote "Just what Mrs. White meant by these passages has been the occasion of some speculation through the years" is certainly revealing. I don't know of any Bible prophets this ambiguity has been applied to. Furthermore, Uriah Smith didn't seem to have any trouble understanding what she meant when he elaborated about her statement in his book, which she and James heartily endorsed!

http://www.ellenwhite.org/critica.htm

quote:

Adventist leader Uriah Smith5 published his defense of Ellen White. In that book he conjectured that the union of man with beast had created "such cases as the wild Bushmen of Africa, some tribes of the Hottentots, and perhaps the Digger Indians of our own country".6

James White "carefully" reviewed Smith's book prior to its publication, and then recommended it in glowing terms to the readers of the church's official magazine, the Review and Herald:

"The Association has just published a pamphlet entitled, 'The Visions of Mrs. E.G. White, A Manifestation of Spiritual Gifts According to the Scriptures.' It is written by the editor of the Review. While carefully reading the manuscript, I felt grateful to God that our people could have this able defense of those views they so much love and prize, which others despise and oppose."7

As noted, the prophet's husband carefully read Smith's book. It is inconceivable that the statements about the Bushmen of Africa passed by James White without notice. His endorsement of the book indicates his implicit approval of the explanation. In fact, because it supposedly established Mrs. White's claims, James and Ellen took 2,000 copies of Smith's book with them to peddle at camp meetings that year!8 By promoting and selling Smith's book the Whites placed their stamp of approval on his explanation of the amalgamation statement.

And of course we must remember:

quote:

"In these letters which I write, in the testimonies I bear, I am presenting to you that which the Lord has presented to me. I do not write one article in the paper expressing merely my own ideas. They are what God has opened before me in vision--the precious rays of light shining from the throne." -Testimonies 5 p. 67

Mark, you said, "I am constantly amazed to encounter these SDA lines of reasoning that take the square root of travel from Earth to Mars, divided by Dan/814 times 1844 divided by 7 to understand! (Ha! Ha!)"

That is so funny--thanks for the humor!!

Gilbert, that Mormon quote is amazing. I remember the name Mcready Price, but I don't remember reading him. One more SDA voice silenced in embarrassment...

To all the "posters - Gilbert J - Markmartin - Colleentinker re the subject - Ellen White and The Mormon Church" - thanks for these revelations - just further backup for what has been suspected all along - August 17 2007 is quite a revealing day. (Had not come across the square root of travel from Earth to Mars etc etc... - adds to the interest.

Okay, I guess I am not a "student of Scripture." Where is this found in the bible? "The Bible itself contains some such statements, as all students of the Scriptures well know."

The "some such statements" that uniting of man and beast defaced the image of God.

Thank you

"some such statements"

Have you ever looked into a fish's eyes? That is how I feel when I try to comprehend the obfusctation that the White Estate spews out. At times I have to wonder, "Are they really serious?"

I feel dumb for asking this, but what is with the "fish eye" comment? Is it that they don't blink?

They just have that kind of "glassy" look -- like there is not a lot of intelligence inside.

I have for some time now believed that Ellen White was a racist. This only further confirms it.
