Hello, McWendell :-)
I didnīt understand when Diana said about a brazilian in CARM. I thought it was a topic here(believe me, I had looked for it in this forum), now I understand that itīs another forum lol. Can anybody give to me the link? If possible, Iīll sign. I added you on msn.

I think itīs great to talk to you in Portuguese. At the moment, when I write in English, it seems I extract water from the rock. I have to remember verbs, noun, pronouns, etc. But, Iīll get the fluency once more.

CARM is short for Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry. One of the forums on it is a place where SDAs and former/non SDAs discuss their differences.

The web address is www.carm.org

Your English is much more understandable than my Portuguese! Glad to see you here too, by the way.

Blessings,

Mary

Welcome McWendell and Lordsanointed!

I pray that Jesus will bless you here on this forum, and that we will be of service to you.

I was wondering if you know about this ministry reaching out to adventists in Brazil:

May the grace be with you.
In Jesus,

Lordsanointed,
It is the same McWendell. I know because I told him about you here on FAF. I was impressed by the Holy Spirit that you two should know each other.
God has brought you here to FAF and now has you acquainted with McWendell. He will also show you what SDAs believe on CARM.
We do have an awesome God.
Diana

Martin,
I know this site, despite it has good informations, some of them itīs not reliable.
Recently, I saw a video in youtube (http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=xP9Hyku3RBg) that one of the pastors of CACP uses wrongs references about Ellen. I still did not check all references in the site, but to argue with the sda, if you commit a mistake, you give to them the reason. Itīs seems we are inventing something. The pastor stated something like this:
Early writings, p. 257,258: Ellen says the salvation of the souls depends on her writings.(4min05sec - 4min16sec)

I didnīt find this information here: http://www.ellenwhite.org/sl/ew1.htm
Or anything that sounds similar.
Until now, the pastor didnīt explain where he got this information.
Iīm not telling you she didnīt wrote something similar, but where can we find this reference? If I use this reference against a sda, all Iīll say to him it will be a "lie".
So, I prefer the English source until now, but I use many things from the CACP(I check all of it before).
Martin, I think the big problem here is the source in English. Most of sda in Brazil donīt know all her writings. So much time and the sda church didnīt translate all she wrote. Why?
As I read in Ellen reserach project: "You would think that the early writings of a prophet would be a priceless treasure that the whole church would want to read."
I always ask about it when Iīm arguing with a sda.

Diana,
Thank you very much to promoting this meeting. I talked to him yesterday. It was very good for me.

In Christ,

Lordsanointed

Lordsanointed,

I looked up pages 257-258 of Early Writings on a CD-ROM of Ellen White's published writings. It looks to me like that pastor's statement was basically correct. Here are those pages (starting with the last paragraph of page 256, which continues onto page 257, and ending with the beginning of page 259--which is the continuation of paragraph 3 on page 258):

quote:

After the great disappointment in 1844, Satan and his angels were busily engaged in laying snares to unsettle the faith of the body. He affected the minds

257
of persons who had had an experience in the messages, and who had an appearance of humility. Some pointed to the future for the fulfillment of the first and second messages, while others pointed far back into the past, declaring that they had been there fulfilled. These were gaining an influence over the minds of the inexperienced and unsettling their faith. Some were searching the Bible to build up a faith of their own, independent of the body. Satan exulted in all this; for he knew that those who broke loose from the anchor he could affect by different errors and drive about with divers winds of doctrine. Many who had led in the first and second messages now denied them, and there was division and confusion throughout the body.

My attention was then called to William Miller. He looked perplexed and was bowed with anxiety and distress for his people. The company who had been united and loving in 1844 were losing their love, opposing one another, and falling into a cold, backslidden state. As he beheld this, grief wasted his strength. I saw leading men watching him, and fearing lest he should receive the third angel's message and the commandments of God. And as he would lean toward the light from heaven, these men would lay some plan to draw his mind away. A human influence was exerted to keep him in darkness and to retain his influence among those who opposed the truth. At length William Miller raised his voice against the light from heaven. He failed in not receiving the message which would have fully explained his disappointment and cast a light and glory on the past, which would have revived his exhausted energies, brightened his hope, and led him to glorify God. He leaned to human wisdom instead of divine, but being broken with arduous labor in his Master's cause and
258
by age, he was not as accountable as those who kept him from the truth. They are responsible; the sin rests upon them.

If William Miller could have seen the light of the third message, many things which looked dark and mysterious to him would have been explained. But his brethren professed so deep love and interest for him, that he thought he could not tear away from them. His heart would incline toward the truth, and then he looked at his brethren; they opposed it. Could he tear away from those who had stood side by side with him in proclaiming the coming of Jesus? He thought they surely would not lead him astray.

God suffered him to fall under the power of Satan, the dominion of death, and hid him in the grave from those who were constantly drawing him from the truth. Moses erred as he was about to enter the Promised Land. So also, I saw that William Miller erred as he was soon to enter the heavenly Canaan, in suffering his influence to go against the truth. Others led him to this; others must account for it. But angels watch the precious dust of this servant of God, and he will come forth at the sound of the last trump.

<SB A Firm Platform <EB

I saw a company who stood well guarded and firm, giving no countenance to those who would unsettle the established faith of the body. God looked upon them with approbation. I was shown three steps-- the first, second, and third angels' messages. Said my accompanying angel, "Woe to him who shall move a block or stir a pin of these messages. The true understanding of these messages is of vital importance.

259
The destiny of souls hangs upon the manner in which they are received." I was again brought down through these messages, and saw how dearly the people of God had purchased their experience. It had been obtained through much suffering and severe conflict. God had led them along step by step, until He had placed them upon a solid, immovable platform. I saw individuals approach the platform and examine the foundation. Some with rejoicing immediately stepped upon it. Others commenced to find fault with the foundation. They wished improvements made, and then the platform would be more perfect, and the people much happier. Some stepped off the platform to examine it and declared it to be laid wrong. But I saw that nearly all stood firm upon the platform and exhorted those who had stepped off to cease their complaints; for God was the Master Builder, and they were fighting against Him. They recounted the wonderful work of God, which had led them to the firm platform, and in union raised their eyes to heaven and with a loud voice glorified God. This affected some of those who had complained and left the platform, and they with humble look again stepped upon it.

(Early Writings of Ellen G. White, page 256 paragraph 3-page 258 paragraph 3.)

Basically, what Ellen White is saying in the above quote is that the salvation of souls depends upon receiving "the three angels' messages" and receiving them in the exact way that she taught them.

See the following link, where Gilbert posted a quote that includes a quote from Ellen White, where she wrote about her involvement in the development of the SDA doctrines: http://64.226.233.122/discus/messages/11/6047.html?1188323902

Thanks Jeremy.
I made a mistake. I thought Iīd see the quotation as he said. I looked for the following term: "the salvation of the souls depends on my writings."
Now, I can see the idea.
Thanks, you helped me so much :-)
