quote:

God determined to purify the world by a flood; but in mercy and love He gave the antediluvians a probation of one hundred and twenty years. During this time, while the ark was in building, the voices of Noah, Enoch, and many others were heard in warning and entreaty. And every blow struck on the ark was a warning message.
Australasian Union Conference Record, Sep. 15, 1902

quote:

Enoch's translation to Heaven just before the destruction of the world by a flood, represents the translation of all the living righteous from the earth previous to its destruction by fire.
Spiritual Gifts, volume 3, page 59

quote:

Enoch first received instruction from Noah, and he observed the law of God, and served him with singleness of heart.
Review and Herald, Apr. 29, 1875

There is just a little problem with Ellen's history.
1. Ellen claims Enoch was alive while the ark was being built.
2. She places Enoch's departure as occurring "just before" the flood.
3. She even goes further and says that Enoch was taught by Noah.

Did Enoch preach while the ark was being built? Did he receive instruction from Noah? Was he translated "just before" the flood?

According to the Biblical genealogy in Genesis 5:
1. Enoch was translated to heaven 69 years before Noah was even born! How could he have received instruction from Noah?
2. The building of the ark did not commence until 1536, a full 549 years after Enoch had been translated. How could Enoch have preached while the ark was being built?
3. Enoch was translated to heaven 669 years before the flood. Was this "just before" the flood?

Did Ellen White really see Enoch in vision? Or was she simply fabricating history?

Gilbert, come on now.

Are you asking for accuracy?

Are you asking for adherence to the Scriptural genealogy?

My dear friend and brother, haven't you heard of progressive revelation?

I suspect if Enoch was seen on Jupiter, there is no good reason he couldn't have traveled down to see Noah. Lets face it, he liked to travel, probably still does.

Randy, you crack me up! Perhaps this is what Einstein was trying to get at with his Theory of Relativity.

Randy, that is so funny! And Gilbert, I do appreciate your unearthing and sharing the hard facts of the woman we all espoused.

Talk about being "charmed" by the presence of a false prophet in our midst...our fogginess re: Ellen's "truth" when we were Adventists reminds me of the Green Witch in C.S. Lewis's "The Silver Chair" in the Narnia series. She gets the chidlren into her castle, feeds them, then begins to play on her lute: "thrum, thrum, thrum..." and tosses a bit of green powder onto the fire. As the children listen to her "thrumming", they grow sleepy and unable to act on the nagging sense that something is wrong...

Praise God for awakening us!

Hey Gilbert,

I've spent quite a bit of time over on CARM lately and I am so glad you are posting these quotes! I find it very interesting that a very small number of posts from SDA's are appearing in response to them.

I pray it really provokes some prayer and some study and some prayerful study!

Hi Susans,

I appreciate your comments as well! Like Randy was saying, we don't have to analyze Ellen White's mental abilities or motives. Her quotations speak for themselves. Ellen's early writings, produced before she became efficient at copying other's writings, contain so many off-the-wall statements that one could go on for a long, long time.

The fascinating thing is that Seventh-day Adventists do quite well at obfuscating the theological arguments. The quotes where Ellen White really makes a fool out of herself the White Estate tries to keep out of view. That drastically increases the "shock value" to Seventh-day Adventists when they first see them, and they have no defense. They are just stunned! They wheel around in a total state of confusion spouting off whatever sounds good until they realize that what they are saying doesn't even make sense to themselves.

There is enough material for me to keep going for years like this just on quotes alone. I don't need to read anyone else's analysis. I just read her own writings. They make my head spin.

The one I just read this evening in Early Writings on the real meaning of Baptism caught me by total surprise. I had never even considered it the way Ellen presents it. Trying to follow Ellen White's logic really is similar to trying to make sense of evolution. The more we "drill down" on a specific subject the less sense it makes. Both God's Word and the Bible maintain the same intricate harmony even when we break it down to the cell level.

I am preparing to start posting a whole series of Exposing Ellen White threads both here and on CARM that will compare the Christian Bible and the SDA Clear Word Bible. If people react with amazement to that like they do Ellen White quotes it should make quite an impact. People need to know what these books say. God is just using us to get the word out.

Or was it the "Enoch" she saw on Saturn?
