I saw a close friend today (who is SDA and introduced me to the church about 5 years ago)and she gave me a bag with a few skirts in it. Anyway, when I got home and got them out, tucked away inside there was the book 'Ten Commandments Twice Removed' by Danny Shelton and Shelley Quinn and a note saying to "please please please read chapter 3&4 with a prayer and your bible". Has anyone read this book? I have yet to read the chapters she suggested, I am quite reluctant but I guess I will. We had 'words' a few weeks ago when after a few emails back and forth I finally said to her that I wasn't trying to convince her she was wrong (I wasn't) and I'd appreciate the same in return. I must say that she is a very very kind loving person who has really taken my leaving the church personally and very very hard. I was thinking though, I have a few books of my own that I purchased from LAM and I was wondering if perhaps I should give her one back to read. The ones I have that I'm thinking of are 'Sabbath In Christ', 'The Sabbath and the Lord's Day' and 'Discovering the New Covenant'. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to which would be best. This may sound silly but I was leaning towards 'Discovering the New Covenant' because when I was reading it I felt like I might give it to another SDA friend to read but I kept 'feeling' like I should give it to my close friend (who gave me the book today). I just wanted to add that her 'angle' is the Sabbath and the Commandments. She loves the Sabbath and finds it a real blessing in her life. She knows I've never been an Ellen White fan and that she'd be wasting her time if she tried that angle. Maree | ||

Maree - Referring to your post concerning the book "Ten Commandments Twice Removed" by Danny Sheldon and Shelley Quinn. Answering your question as to whether I have read the book - NO. I would refer you to Calvary Community Church's ExAdventist Outreach under the "Newest Information section" for an excellent book review on this publication by Jon Zens. All the details are there. There was enough there to convince me that I did not have to persue the expected Adventist bias any further. Go with the scriptural gospel. God Bless. JRossB | ||

Hi Maggie, I had an SDA lady who is a friend of my mother's mail me the booklet Ten Commandments Twice Removed and I did read some of it but not all. These people are stuck in a rut and do not understand the concept of the new covenant. I liked Greg Taylor's illustration of the wills. You may presently have a will made that is exactly what you want. Then circumstances change in your family ie possibly the birth of a child, etc. and you are required to make a new will with changes. Is the old will still valid - no. Was it good at the time - yes. But now you have something even better and more appropriate for your circumstances. That is the difference between the old and new covenants. I also was going to refer you to Mark's website and the article written by Jon Zens. I wrote a note back to my mother's friend but chose not to get into the nitty gritty details because there was no point. She is older and is very set in her ways. I am secure in what I believe and I had to leave it at that. Hope this helps. Blessed | ||

I have also received that book from somebody, but I did not read it. I think it is a good idea to give her a book in return. Discovering the New Covenant is a very good and easy read book I think. | ||

I've read most of the Ten Commandments Twice Removed. It's confusion—total confusion. It's the same old arguments for the Sabbath and the 10 Commandments. In fact, Maree, I'll tell you what I tell most people when they first leave. I suggest you avoid reading Adventist material for several months; we had to sign off SDA stuff for a couple years or so. During those transitional months, we were very vulnerable to their deceptions and arguments because we weren't totally grounded in understanding the real meanings of the Bible. The old SDA interpretations still impacted us when we read SDA arguments. You have to remember, Maree, that Adventist propoganda is literally doctrines of demons. There is no purpose in reading them again. You already know the Adventist arguments. One of the things that most frustrated me (and still occasionally does) was people's statements that I really didn't understand Adventism, or if I'd read the latest and greatest explanation, I'd come around. You KNOW Adventism, and that's precisely why you left. It doesn't square with the Bible. If you want to give your friend a book, I do agree that Discovering the New Covenant is a very good "first exposure". It's wonderful. Colleen | ||

Thank you! I did read chapters 3&4 of the book as she requested, with my bible and prayer. I found when I looked up the bible verses being quoted as 'proof' and read the verses before and after the quoted verse, they actually didn't mean what the book was saying they meant. I didn't read any more than these 2 chapters because I was getting quite a creepy feeling about the whole thing. I dropped the book back off to my friend at her work this morning and popped my copy of 'Discovering the New Covenant' in there as well as the section of Proclamation on 'The Law Written on the Heart' (I photocopied it, hope that's not a breach of copyright!). She wasn't at her desk so I just left it there and sent her a text message later thanking her for the book but saying that it hadn't changed my conviction. I got a text back before saying 'Thanks for reading it. I didn't think you would, I'm just not really sure what to say, I am really stumped and lost for words'. I know that the 10 commandments were ONCE removed, but only for correct gospel believers. Just how has it been twice removed? Can anybody flesh out this heresy? haha | ||
