River, you said it well.
Jim, ther reason this isn't a good place to "learn doctrine" is that there are really only a few doctrines that are vital: the nature of Jesus and teh Trinity, the central role of the cross, and the reliability of Scripture. All else can be secondary.
God does teach us doctrine as we get to know Him. If we seek Him, he will treach us truth in His time.

Mary, I'm sorry that whoever it was decided to judge your faith in that way. It's obvious they are misled to believe they know the Holy Spirit that well that they can see inside a person's heart. (We can leave those hijinx up to EGW.)
To me, you are a woman of faith. I enjoy your posts as well and I really hope you don't stop sharing your heart with all of us. One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl! (Yes, I just quoted the Osmonds and I do know they are Mormons)

Rightly dividing the Rhetoric.
Thanks to Jim02 for your posts, with your viewpoints as to how you find the "Forum" situation from your point of view - especially the main points made in the first post.
In my previous Adventist experience (some 25+ years ago) we as a concerned group of likethinking lay people who took it on ourselves to provide an independent platform to discuss shoes, ships, sealing wax, cabbages and kings, on a whole range of religious topics putting forward all type of subjects as well as popular as well as NOT so popular viewpoints.
It is interesting the similarities we encountered that have been outlined in your posts. Like the definitions of the rules (or seeming no rules).
I personally favour the current catch all system of the open forum that is allowed to prevail in this forum.
We had our problems of administration of our forum - not dissimilar to the same points raised here. We had the church administration putting their administrative pressure on as well as being accused of "being too negative" irrespective as to whether it was the truth or not etc. We had all the rooms along with the extremists from all directions.
Essentially all viewpoints were canvassed, they were given publicity, and they were recorded via audio and script and made available to the masses so that cultivation of lively debate could take place.
I personally believe FAF is doing the same thing and doing a great job at it in providing the current platform for viewpoints to be discussed. OK there is a range of diversity and some points made have to be read quite a few times to see just what is being said etc.
Again talking personally I have learnt a tremendous amount from the diverse presentations as well as the subjects. Unfortunately in our diversity we sometimes encounter unexpected negativity of all measures. Venting, healing and hurting as well as learning and loving is all part of being people.
Currently on this particular thread I applaud the thoughts that were promped by the original discussion and as importantly the generated reaction from people that replied with such valid points concerning your points raised.
I am very thankful that we have this platform (Thanks AGAIN to the FAF Team - oh that we had the same facilities in our day). Interesting I have also been checking out the Archived entries on this forum - very interesting reading. I also have been busy scanning through the Proclamation Articles in the other departments of this as well as other Christian organisations.
I have just come away from today's issue of Grace Mail (which they urge to share with friends) dated Friday September 28 2007. It is all good but what especially caught my attention was the main points of the "Family" guidelines. Love one another, Be at peace with one another, Honour one another, Accept one another, Carry one another's burdens, Be patient with one another, Forgive one another , Encourage one another, and Serve one another. As the article suggests print out these guidelines and place them above your monitor as an ongoing reminder so we can keep practicing them as we hang out together.
