Today our daughter is three months old and my husband and I have begun to think of childblessing, but where?

He wants it to be in a SDA church and I have not really found a new church yet. I wisited a promising one a month ago and will go back tonight, I'm kind of tired searching for a new church so I hope this is the place God has for me...

Our daughter will not be raised an sda eighter by me (of course) or by my husband, and therfor I see no point in having the blessing service in a sda church. And I do not like the idea of having a sda pastor full of wrong doctrines pray for my daughter. But my husband does not want to have it in another church where he does not know the pastor or the people...

Any good ideas of how we could solve this? I am maybe open for a compromise, to do it in both churches - for his sake, but I dont know if he wants this. Maybe you can help me so I have some good ideas before I adress it again.

That is a dilemna, Berit. Is there a non denominational church near by. They have child blessings.
Keep praying about it. God will show you where he wants you.
He is an awesome God and He will show you.

Berit,

The real part of a "child blessing" is the dedication of you and your husband to raise this child, and all your children, to know, love and obey the Lord as their personal Savior.
What church or setting to do this in, I am not sure, but the important part is your own commitment.

P.S. My wife and I both have been praying for the rest and health of your youngest one. Close to forty years ago, our youngest had colic and yellow jaundice and so suffered simular sleep problems.

Phil

How about just praying for God to bless your child at home? Maybe inviting Christian brothers and sister to come by and pray with you.

I can only conquer with Phil.

May Jesus bless your child and may you be a mother like Lois and Eunice (2 Tim 1:5). Amen.

Your brother in Christ,
Martin

Hi Martin,
I just added a World Time Zone clock to my computer, so I now know it is after 8pm back there in Spain and for Ramone, in Japan, it is a little after 4am the next day. I quess he might be asleep just now.

Good to hear from you. I am home today, a little "under the weather" (sick) but having a wonderfull time on the forum and searching scripture in the process.

Your brother in Christ,

Phil

P.S. I injoy your insights.

I think your right on Martin ,in fact I was thinking to not only invite your christian friends but pl directly involved in your childs life if your close with grandparents aunts and uncles and have a celebration in rasing your child for God together, doesnt have to be in a church, its always a heart matter with God,take pics and videos for keepsakes. Berit, under the circumstances, I would also recommend a home blessing with friends/family invited in. It could be a family celebration. When my nephew was born 25 years ago, my sis and her husband had a home dedication for their son with family and close friends and a brunch following. It was quite a nice way of handling it.

Praying for you, Berit...

Yes, a home blessing would be an alternative. But we still would not know which pastor to invite, and our families live faaar away... All the friends we have here are all adventists, not that it matters so much, but I would still feel in a sda setting - even at home.

Berit...would it be a possibility to wait a few more months or longer to have your child blessed/dedicated? There's nothing wrong with waiting. By then you may have found a new church and pastor that you connect with. Just a thought. :-)

Blessings,
Kristen

Yes, we will still give it a few more months. My husband IS thinking a lot about the problems with adventism. The other day he said that when he reads Paul and the NT he agrees fully with me, but he still need some more time.

The church I have found seems to be very nice and I think I will settle there until the Lord shows me another place. My husband has said that he will come along and I hope he will like it aswell. But I am afraid that he will not come along often enough to get to know the church in such a way that he feels comfortable with having the blessing there.

He might agree on doing it in both churches, we'll see. What do you think of doing it in both churches?? I am not too happy about it, but if that's the alternative to not do it at all I'll think that might be the option for us. But if there are things that speaks very much against that I'd be happy to be made aware of them!

Thank you for your counsels and prayers!!

PS: Doing it at home is a nice thought, but we do not have enough space here...

Berit, I understand. There's no reason you couldn't do it twice...but if waiting is an option, I think Kristen makes a very good point. You just don't know what might transpire with your husband in the meantime. I know I continue to pray for him, and God is in the business of bringing people to Himself.

You know what? Ask God to show you His will. He is faithful; you'll become convinced of how to handle this!
