quote:

Here is a channel wholly devoted to himself, under his control, and he can make the world believe what he will. The book that is to judge him and his followers, he puts back into the shade, just where he wants it. The Saviour of the world he makes to be no more than a common man; and as the Roman guard that watched the tomb of Jesus spread the lying report that the chief priests and elders put into their mouths, so will the poor, deluded followers of these pretended spiritual manifestations repeat and try to make it appear that there is nothing miraculous about our Saviour's birth, death, and resurrection. After putting Jesus in the background, they attract the attention of the world to themselves and to their miracles and lying wonders, which, they declare, far exceed the works of Christ. Thus the world is taken in the snare and lulled to a feeling of security, not to find out their awful deception until the seven last plagues shall be poured out. Satan laughs as he sees his plan succeed so well and the whole world taken in the snare.

Early Writings, page 265

Did you get that? Ellen White states that "poor, deluded followers" (of Satan) will have "pretended spiritual manifestations" where they repeat "our Savior's birth, death, and resurrection." Think about that one for a little bit.

The truth is the road to freedom.

The most striking thing to me is how much stock EGW put in Satan's control and ability. The amount of credit she gave him is staggering. The amount of credit she gave to the Spirit's ability to protect us from Satan is non-existant. Everything was up to the "remnant" of Adventists who diligently needed to memorize everything and listen to all her insights & instructions. If they carefully strove hard, they might not be deceived.

How liberating Jesus Christ is from all of this! Praise God!!! Rest!! Sabbath-rest!!!

More horrific exaltation of Satan by EGW.

Actually, Gilbert, what she is saying is even worse than how you interpreted it. What she is saying is that the "followers of these pretended spiritual manifestations" (pretended manifistations of dead people) WILL physically and actually "repeat and try to make it appear that there is nothing miraculous about" Jesus' "birth, death, and resurrection."

This is the worst blasphemy possible!! And people think this woman was a Christian?!

It has taken me a long time to begin to really see how Satan-centric Adventism is. Now, I believe we must teach people there is a real satan. If we don't acknowledge that, we cannot defned ourselves against the enemy. But Adventism is not actually teaching that Satan is the enemy in a biblical way.

While Ellen was full of warnings against satan, she concurrently elevated him to a level of power that rivaled Jesus. She left the legacy of fear that he was a power against whom we had little recourse. She made us believe he had legitimate questions and claims against God--claims that deserve answers. Further, she attributed him with questions that completely contradict what the Bible says.

She made him a villain who was bigger than life against whom Jesus has an ongoing struggle. She also made him the villain we love to hate--he will be punished for our sin. It's the most deceptive and confusing sort of satan-exaltation I've seen. She doesn't say he's admirable; she makes him a villain. But she makes Jesus sort-of his peer, and she gives satan more strength and power than he actually has.

Bottom line, her "satan exaltation" is actually Jesus-debasement. Adventists are left with no understanding of Jesus as Sovereign, eternal God who has absolute authority over Satan. They do not understand that He ahs already disarmed Satan. They do not understand that Jesus as God is outside the circle of creation--nor do they understand that satan and evil are merely a small circle within the large circle of creation.

Satan/evil is God's monkey. Period. Satan has no power except that derived from God. He has no intrinsic power.

Not only that Colleen, but I see a potential for not being able to ward of the enemy because of the lack of understanding on the Adventist part.

Not being able to put on the armour, know ones place in Jesus just seems to me to leave a person open to all kinds of torment.

River, that is very true. Great insight.
