The commands and promises in Psalm 37

For a moment I would like to lay aside all our issues that we discuss on this forum and focus on the promises found in Psalm 37. What follows is an outline of all the commands I could find along with the promises that results for those who truly love the Lord:

quote:

Fret not thyself because of evildoers

neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the LORD;

trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him:

fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil

wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land

Phil

P.S. I am home instead of church because of spending the most of last night in the hospital with my wife. She is home, praising the Lord and recovering just fine from a bad fall. Today is a time of rest for both of us.

Phil,
Thanks for the promises. Every so often, I forget them.
I pray your wife is feeling better and that the both of you get the rest you need.

I'm so sorry about your wife, Phil. I'll pray for her complete recovery. I can see why that psalm was so significant to you today. My goodness--isn't it amazing how often that one psalm commands us not to fret but to wait on the Lord?

God fights our battles; we only stand and wait, armed with the armor of God which is designed to help us to stand (Ephe 6:10-18).

Hi Phil,

Psalm 37 is one of my favorite psalms, too.

I love that it says we are simply to trust in the Lord and do good. Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. After that we can delight in the Lord who gives us the desires of our hearts (deeper intimacy with Jesus). That's such good stuff.

Thanks so much for sharing that psalm today.

I'm praying for you and your wife. May God surround you both with the peace the world cannot give during this time.
