Hello everyone, hope all is well.

I have a question and wanted to know your thoughts. What do you feel about demons in dreams?

My wife had a dream about shadowy demons (4 of them) She was standing in our backyard with 2 unkown people talking. than she noticed 4 demons with one being larger and clearly leader like, they were talking very loud and echoing, she could not really make out what they were saying but said they were speaking english. They seem to be talking about her but not to her. They were sort of jumping and landing closer and closer to her. She starting praying to Jesus to help her and by the time they got near her the dream stopped. She was not able to remember who the 2 strangers were that she was with. She felt as though she knew them in the dream but did not upon waking up.

So my questions would be what would each of you make of this dream? Do you think it's all in her head, demons, or a message? Thanks in advanced for sharing your thoughts with me.

Peace in Christ
Paul

Paul,

I am not a large believer in my own personal dreams. If I had a dream like that, I would likely chalk it up to the pizza eaten too late the nite before!

What should be comforting to her is that even in her uncontrollable dreamstate she demonstrated faith in Jesus to save her. That should be a very good launching point for any discussion concerning her salvation, in case she is still adventist (I don't know her status of belief).

Paul, I also would not consider such a dream a message. It might reflect some sort of struggle in her life, some dissonance she is dealing with. I know I've had dreams that symbolically "show" me exactly what I'm struggling with.

Everyone is different, though—and sometimes we are dealing with issues of eternal significance—struggles between truth and lie, light and dark, reality and deception. If we tend to process things in our dreaming, it's possible her own struggles could symbolize themselves graphically. It's also possible that some truth of which we may be deeply convicted but unwilling to acknowledge may pop up vividly in a dream.

My suggestion would be that she pray that God teach her what is truth and show her what she needs to know, that she ask God to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus, to plant her firmly in truth and root her in reality and give her the wisdom and courage from Jesus to surrender to Him whatever is it is He is asking her to surrender.

If she is in Christ, no demon can "have" her. Jesus has released her from the power of darkness and has set her free from the fear of death.

I would pray and ask the Lord about it. Otherwise, I have no idea.

It's interesting that you ask that, Paul!

Not too long ago I had a dream that I was battling Satan and his head honcho in a physical fight. It was brutal! I kept trying to dodge all the blows. What was weird was Satan was a man with a polo shirt on and jeans and his right hand man was a woman!! As I was fighting Satan, out of the corner of my eye I saw my dear friend (who is an SDA) sitting on a couch looking away at what was going on. There was nothing in front of him for him to be distracted. He just sat there as I fought. When Satan got tired and saw that He wasn't getting anywhere, his honcho woman took over.

So, in answer to your question, like Colleen had mentioned, I think it's possible to dream about "demon-like" beings - but to say they are real demons entering into her psyche and dreams, no! Your wife, like me, is covered in the saving blood of Christ and there is no power on earth that can get to us. For "greater is He that is in me, than he that is in this world." 1 John 4:4

Looking back I see the meaning of my dream - spiritually I have been pleading witht the Lord, praying and in a way, spiritually battling for these people! Satan can give up anytime, just like those two demons in your wife's dream!! We have the greater power - Jesus Christ!! :-)

Thanks for the comments,

I agree, I feel that the dreams are just something that my wife is going through, or something she is feeling. I was happy to hear that she prayed to Jesus to save her. I just keep praying and hoping she will completely surrender to the Lord and feel the Peace, Love and Joy that we do.

Thanks
Paul

If she hasn't completely surrendered herself to the Lord, that would certainly allow demons legal ground to her soul. Of course, I have no idea if that's the case, but if so; the dream could be a warning.

Just last night I had a horrible nightmare in which my house burned down with my children in it. It shook me up so bad that it took me over an hour to get back to sleep. But it means nothing. I recently changed my diet and I think it is most likely due to that.

We tend to remember most vividly what we were just dreaming if we are awakened during the dream. Profound dreams, by their very nature, can be the cause of us waking in the first place. They can really shake us up. But we fail to recall many dreams simply because they came and went long before we woke up.

If a dream topic repeats over time, that can metaphorically signify something we are seeking to resolve. I used to have a recurring dream where I was underwater with my feet stuck in the mud and unable to surface. The abject fear of drowning would wake me up. My therapist helped me realize that this was a signal from my subconscious that I was metaphorically drowning and stuck in the mud of my job that was driving me bonkers with stress and overload. I left the job 7 years ago and haven't drowned in my dreams since.

IMHO, if it is God giving us a message in a dream, He leaves absolutely no doubt about it.

Great point, Freeatlast. God does not cloak His messages in fear and obscurity.
