Have any of you seen this news story? What are some the takes you've seen/heard on it?

http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/503814.aspx

It interests me especially due to the fact that I see more and more references to the Christian/Islam conflict which most of those I know who are SDA, casually disregard even though so many Christians are being pursecuted and killed worldwide.

It is amazing how much SDAs do ignore what's right in front of them.

I was told by an SDA pastor that the end times will be Christian against Christian - that the Muslim against Christian won't even be an issue. How he came to that conclusion is beyond me.

But it is amazing to see how historically the Middle East has been a part of Christian persecution for a long time. Even more amazing how not one person has yet been martyred for keeping the Sabbath! That I know of . . . I could be wrong!

I was taught this all had to do with the king of the north and the kind of the south. One was the false eccumenical union with the papacy. The other was atheism.

My teacher who was an elder (and the main teacher in the church) said that Islam would be nothing of importance in the end times. It would all be about true versus false worship. I think I remember hearing that everyone would believe in God except the few atheists that would remain. Most would either be Sunday keepers or true worshippers.

It's interesting that you mentioned the persecution taking place now. I brought up the week of prayer for the persecuted church that one church was having. I e-mailed the pastor and elders and asked if we could have a time of prayer for the persecuted church. They said no. I couldn't believe it.

I guess it's not REALLY persecution yet because it's not about the Sunday law. It's the Adventists that are supposed to be persecuted - right? Sorry...I'm being facetious, I know.

Esther, how interesting and horrifying. It makes sense--but I know that Adventists really don't see this. I'm more and more convinced that because Adventists know the Sabbath will be the final test and "mark", they are blind to what's actually happening.

Hide in plain sight...

Several years ago, I was on the mailing list of Samuele Bachiocchi. He gained an interest in what role would Islam play in end times and discussed this in his monthly newsletter at the time. He suggested that maybe biblical prophecies needed to be looked at again, may be the early church was a bit off the mark, and we should be more concerned about Islam.

The following month, he stated he would not be researching it afterall, he had received many negative letters from pastors and church members about his suggestion...and he would not pursue it afterall if the church leadership was not behind him.

I remember thinking, how sad, that maybe the Holy Spirit was leading him and he was ignoring it because of what a few church leaders had to say about it.

Yes, Adventists would be totally blindsided if Islamic Sharia financial law came into effect. I don't know whether or not the Islamic religion could take over from that beginning or not, but it's FINANCIAL law! Am I jumping to conclusions here, or does anyone else wonder if perhaps what it says in Revelation about people not being able to buy or sell unless they have the mark of the beast, could be the end result of this?

All it takes for someone to become a Muslim is to say a few words. Adventists waiting for the "Sunday law" could perhaps say those words just so they'd be able to buy and sell or perhaps save their lives. After all, it wouldn't be the "SUNDAY LAW" so they'd go ahead and not realize they'd gotten the mark of the beast. (Or would getting the mark of the beast be so easy?)

The hatred for Christians is growing worldwide. (Think of Sarah Palin's church getting burned and the violence towards those who voted for the protection of marriage). Persecution will come from many different directions. It will not necessarily be from Islam or Catholics or athiests or government or other Christians.....I think it will be coming from all.

What is sad is that when and SDA talks about 'the early church,' they're referring to less than 200 years ago. The Early Church was organized by Jesus, and left in the hands of His disciples. It was not a recent invention!

Amen to what the "early" church is. =)

I have brought the Islam factor up more than once with an SDA. Doesn't compute. I ask them how a Sunday law is going to be a worldwide test with Muslims? They are cutting people's heads off who are infidels, and blowing themselves up to make a point. These people are going to bow to Catholicism???? I think we will really have much work to do with SDA's when things are obviously not panning out as they have believed. I hope by then they will at least listen.

If our country follows in the footsteps of many others, persecution will come from the state, and also from fellow "Christians" who are willing to make compromises to still be authorized by the state. These church leaders are given perks and privileges for ratting out the underground churches. Evangelism will be forbidden (a relief probably to some churches!) and children will not be allowed to attend. But the society as a whole will point to the approved state religions as glowing examples of religious freedom.

Recently I watched a doc. on the History channel about cults. I was unnerved by how seamless their portrayal was between Koresh, Jim Jones, and pictures of Jesus and protestant church worship services. The visuals were flying by as the narrator explained the dangers of these fringe groups. Then one professor of religion from somewhere said something to this affect, speaking of how cults cause problems in society -

.... Wherever there is a difference, there will be tension. Where there is tension there is the opportunity for strife. Where there is strife there is opportunity for violence. Where there is violence....

You get the picture. They were speaking of these fringe groups as "millenialists" - anyone who believed in a supernatural being that was going to come to earth to judge it and take it over, setting up a utopian kingdom. If you believe Jesus is coming back, that's you and me.

I'm not trying to be a fear monger, but just realize the reality of the world and what Jesus said His followers would face. The freedom we have enjoyed in this country is not the norm, but the exception. I am thankful for it every day, but feel that I do so little to take advantage of it while I have it.
